Description When I first saw the redesign of Tina Rex, the tyrannosaur from The Amazing World Gumball, starting with the Halloween episode of the second season, I was surprised and amazed, because not only is she more anatomically correct than her original design, but she looks a lot like the Tyrannosaurus rex's from Jurassic Park and its squeals.Β  Can you notice the similarities?

Tina Rex is owned by Ben Bocquelet and Cartoon Network
Jurassic Park is owned by Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment

Just increase Tina to the size of Rexy and downsize her eyes a bit and increase the teeth, and she’d be mistaken for the same dinosaur in a way

Rexy's also called Roberta?

While enjoy her current design, I liked Tina's previous design, because it has some cartoony emotional features that could show you when she was clearly happy, sad or angry, etc. It's a pity she hasn't gotten more starring episode roles, far reduced in the background characters.

Gumball: Darwin, keep absolutely still. Her vision is based on movement.Β

Tina: That only works in movies.Β

I love both Jurassic park and the amazing world of gumball, Tina is one of my favorite characters in the show, I guess the creator is a huge fan of Jurassic Park and it was really amazing of him to add Tina as a major character. Funny thing is Tina was the reason I watched the show

Originally what Tina looked resembled look something like an Albertosaurus, because of those small little horns and that drop in between near the eyes and snout of the skull.

Β What is funny is that Tina actually had Rexy's roar in that episode when they did try to get Daisy back so that may have been a foreshadow hehehe ~ Β

Yeah I noticed that too! Β

Season 1 Tina looks albertosaurine-like than tyrannosaurine!

Yes were making a connection here! I thought I was the only one who noticed that, you know if had shown her father in that unmade episode Rex I would say since Tina is young she is gonna look more like an albertosaurian then a tyrannosaurian.

Yep! Young tyrannosaurs were a lot different than the adults!

I see some similarities, all right, but tyrannosaur characters having their designs (or even their voices) influenced by JP isn't uncommon. It's much like how almost all depictions of raptors in pop culture draw from JP.

Asuma17 In reply to BrandonScottPilcher [2015-05-21 21:21:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah your right. Kinda like how all cartoon T-rexes look a lot more like Sharptooth than the actual thing.

He has a point. Jurassic Park pretty much rewrote the dinosaur pop culture rule book from '93 onwards.
