Description
Of course, the majority of Goths are unique in their style and music preferences. However, within the subculture there are certain "types" of Goth with particular characteristics. And it can be fun to classify them. Naturally, classifications for each "type" vary from person to person, so you may disagree with what I say here!I've had so many requests for this one that I moved it ahead of schedule.
I could simply sticking up for the Baby Bats because I was certainly one of them in the past (and I lot of people would say I still am one). However, I could write an entire essay on why I think it's such a shame that some members of the Goth community, renowned for its open-minded, liberal and tolerant attitudes, can be given to such elitism when it comes to the Baby Bats. Surely this kind of snobbery and exclusion in "normal" society is one of the primary reasons why many Goths choose to reject mainstream values?
Rant over. Anyway, I like to think that this pair are Romantic Goth Boy [link] and Rivet Head Girl [link] when they were kids.
As with all my work, please DON'T steal this! If you want to use it for whatever purposes, email me and ask me first.

Black Veil Brides is not metal, it's screamo, sometimes called screamcore/hardcore. Nobody likes a whiny baby, or whiny babybat in your case. An easy way to avoid "hate" is to act your age, if you wish to be treated like your age act it. You sound like more of an emo, you are a whiner, and you are EXTREMELY uneducated when it comes to music, or style. learn what REAL metal is, and listen to The Cure, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees Etc. Because all you listed as goth are a bunch of dumb foreign metal bands.

Black Veil Brides isn't screamo either
they're more Shock Rock/ Hard Rock now they were Metalcore/Post Hardcore bands like Orchid
City of Caterpillar, and early Saosin is Screamo.

That sounds like a lot of my friends! they look goth, they talk goth, but they listen some euasy bands and wear a lot of make up. They still need to find a real goth inside. There is nothing wrong with them now, but they are just not complete yet

I'm a "Baby-Bat", but i dont wear what i wear for shock or popularity, i wear it because i like to wear it, it makes me feel good. I dont wear tonnes of make-up, sometimes, i simply some eyeliner and mascara, and my favourite jewellery. I dont love Marilyn Manson, he's ok, you cant hate someone who you dont know is my opinion. I like HIM but i also kind of like Bauhaus and The Cure and Sisters Of Mercy are ok. I am being who i am, I dont do it for anyone just myself ^_^

Yeah, I think I'm sorta on my way to becoming a Baby Bat. Even though, I consider myself a Metalhead more so as well. I listen to Metal Music and wear black a lot and I prefer Metal/Silver accessories. I'm not really even looking for the Goth look but, I guess that's what I'm becoming.

XD! I'm not sure if I was one or not. When I was 12-13, I hung out with all the 20-30 year old goths, and swapped music and thoughts withe them. I never really got along with any of the kids who claimed themselves goth, because they were all Manson heads, and shock-lovers, and I HATE Manson. All the elder goths LOVED me (and one thought I was 18 when I was 13, got down on one knee, and asked me to dance with him. He realized his mistake after we finished dancing...we still dance together once every year. :3 He's funny.) And had no qualms with me hanging with them. I think it's because my mother AND father were into Trad and Romantic Goth culture when they were in their teen years, and I was taught to be what I WANTED, not what others want. I still hang out with the elder goths, and the wannabes in highschool annoy the HELL out of me. I want to shove some Bauhaus, Specimen, Cinema strange,Christian Death, Corpus Delicti, and Malice Mizer in their faces.

I guess I'm kind of a "baby bat", myself. I'm 13 (almost 14) and I've been into goth from a very young age. However just maybe a year or so ago, I really started getting into goth and learning about its cultural roots. I also am not really interested in being an attention whore goth (I don't try to scare/shock people, and I don't try too hard to impress elder goths) mainly because of my social anxiety. Also, I rarely listen to HIM or Marilyn Manson (even though I believe both groups are very talented). Overall I dress in a style that's pretty much a mixture of traditional, modern, and romantic/victorian, and I don't really shop at/like Hot Topic, which seems to be where most people think baby bats shop. I still consider myself a baby bat though, because I'm still new to the goth scene xD

Spooky Kids, Mansonites and to an extent KinderGoths are derived from Marilyn Manson. Also Marilyn Manson is most definitely NOT a "metal band" If anything he'd have to be labeled as Industrial in terms of music and Shock-Rock in terms of everything else. It's scene kids who are the real enemy not young Goths.

lmfao God I remember my cousin being a baby bat (she's older than me) she did it completely for the shock factor she got knocked up at 17 had no idea who the father was and dropped out. I mean she completely dropped anything goth or dark! And yes baby goth's to me don't have to be pre-teens I've seen many and I mean MANY adult 'goth's' here in Ohio that look like a mix of manson and the crow, and think just they have a T-shirt that say "I fucking hate life and everything in it" that there goth ... and usually they drop out of it cause either they didn't get the attention they wanted or did get what they want and didn't have a need to be goth any more. to be honest I don't put myself in certain goth stereotype or any stereotype for that matter it would be to boring

The only times these kids bug me is when i walk into hot topic, or a relatively gothic store in my epic pink rainbow glitterness and they start hissing.
some even called me a slut -_- seriously? I was in bell bottoms and a neon pink turtle neck sweater.
But then I know some nice ones too, and they have began to mature a bit more. I think it depends on how mature we are when we start out. I had to grow up fast as a little kid so that helped.

Although I'm a teen and relatively new to the goth scene, i'm glad I have some eldergoth friends who helped me out along the way. I'm much happier as a perky goth then I would have been a baby bat.
Also, Julian Vendors helped too.

Agree with most of it....Not sue ab t ast though.
Not ALL baby bats mature into "real" goths.
Most of them as you say.. doing it for the "shock" value and attention.
Those are the types that usually drop off and at some point.
And look back one day "I remember when I was goth" they say.
When in reality....They never really were.lol

So, basically, they're wannabes. They're trying to fit into a fad instead of being themselves, which is what goth really is. I'm 13 and I haven't been a "baby bat" since I was like 9. Which wasn't actually that long ago, but it seems like longer since I'm a kid... Of course, I'm still considered the creepy kid since I'm so young lol. But I guess the reason I'm not a baby bat is because I'm kind of a geek too... My style is definitely more aesthetic than the aggressive metal style I'm not even the person who labeled myself as a goth, everyone else did.
Wow, I just typed a lot for one comment.

i completely agree. See, my little 'essay' ( ) is that i like the 'goths' who are goth because they are TRULY being themselves, not falling to a fad and trying to be sexually attractive. the harsh opinions for these kinds of stereotypes are why i dont like people to call me goth, because its my exquisite taste that sets me apart from most of the 'goths' my age. 13. I am who i am not to be looked at, no, but to just be me. The word 'goth' actually barely skipped my mind when people said i started (and am, apparently, still going) goth. Its as simple as this really, i like dark art, dark music, well... dark anything really. as long as it is beautiful, not punky. and of course im into spooky and creepy, its just me. My favorite colors are REALLy black, scarlet, violet, emerald, blue, dark pink(as long as black is with it), white and gray, but because i simply like those colors and dont like colors like yellow, or orange. Im not saying that just to be acknowledged. And I dont WANT to be acknowledged, i dont want people looking at me. Because im paranoid and just dont like people. its social anxiety disorder, really. so, i guess i could be considered a 'baby bat', but wouldnt really want to be.
oh well, you see my point. Ill stop rambling on with my little rant now
(oh, and heres a little funfact: goth was first introduced in france in the eighteen hundreds, i think not too sure about the time frame, but it was a long time ago in france.)

HIM is what I listen to when I get dumped and Marilyn Manson is what I listen to when im feeling silly they are both respectable bant they are creating music that some people enjoy. I tend to think of baby bats and mall goths as two different things. I think of babybats as fledglings and mall goths as dabblers. We must guide our babybats and tolerate the mall goths.
