Description Of course, the majority of Goths are unique in their style and music preferences. However, within the subculture there are certain "types" of Goth with particular characteristics. And it can be fun to classify them. Naturally, classifications for each "type" vary from person to person, so you may disagree with what I say here!

I've had so many requests for this one that I moved it ahead of schedule.

I could simply sticking up for the Baby Bats because I was certainly one of them in the past (and I lot of people would say I still am one). However, I could write an entire essay on why I think it's such a shame that some members of the Goth community, renowned for its open-minded, liberal and tolerant attitudes, can be given to such elitism when it comes to the Baby Bats. Surely this kind of snobbery and exclusion in "normal" society is one of the primary reasons why many Goths choose to reject mainstream values?

Rant over. Anyway, I like to think that this pair are Romantic Goth Boy [link] and Rivet Head Girl [link] when they were kids.

As with all my work, please DON'T steal this! If you want to use it for whatever purposes, email me and ask me first.

lol I listen to MM and HIM also, but I donΒ΄t call me a Goth. ItΒ΄s really interesting that the "True" Metalfreaks say the same things. But MM is not Goth and not Heavy Metal so this will take care of itself. And HIM is a band you listen to, when you lost your Partner. xD

I like HIM! Well I like the beat... the words are a little uh... they just aren't my style lol. And we need to help the baby bats find true music! Expose them to true goth. They only say they like it because they don't know any better! It's our job to show them. Poor souls.

I find your works interesting, though, I'm not very sure of this but according to what I heard the term Gothic (goth) came out of the mouth of Peter Murphy (Bauhaus Vocalist). In an interview they asked to label his music in which he replied: "Gothic" (this was before the term Gothic was used as a music genre). It's not my purpose to prove you're wrong, but just to ad another perspective.

Keep up the good work!

In truth everyone has been a baby bat at some point. It takes time for one find an identity not forced on you. Posers are the general type every group Goth, Emo, or Punk dislike. It's simply the group that chose to wear the look for a fashion fad. One should wear what they like when they like and worry about the labels later.

i took a test once and apparently a "Spooky Kid" O_o but i was listening to goth bands since i was 6 and i got a shirt for my 8th b-day from my sister and i mostly stay inside online so idk why i would be considered a "mall goth" (the last time i went to there was 3 months ago) but i like many other music than just Manson, like Mindless Self Indulgence, Dresden Dolls, Rabbit Junk, Dir En Grey, Nine Inch Nails, Vocaloid, The Birthday Massacre, Voltaire, Jack off Jill, and Kittie. though im not old enough to remember the 80's or even the Mid 90's i dont believe im a poser, i might be a pre-teen but i dont think i would be a "Baby Bat". these people just sound like the 2 children at my school who love to dress like that for shock value and say things like "we're so goth and evil", "darkness is my friend" (im not joking, they accually DID say that)

Thanks for sticking up for us, it's hard to find someone who will do that. I'm 13 and I think that makes me a baby bat. However, I don't like HIM and I only like one or two of Marylin Mansons songs. I don't wear the skater/metal head clothes and I don't cake myself with make up. I don't wear . Since my mum could technicaly be considered an elder goth I was raised on The Cult, Siouxsie and the banshees, Bahaus, The Damned etc. being played around the house. I could move on from calling myself a baby bat but to be honest I'm not sure what kind of goth I am.

I love the goth type series by the way

Love this, and it's so true... Besides that, music is sacred... To scorn based on musical tastes, unless the music itself is meaningless, is closed-minded

I'm a mix of this, victorian, rivethead, metalhead and a lil' bit of geek. In clothing style, that is.
There was this 'top pro-goth' who started insulting me for not belonging to one scene. I think that I do belong to the greater scene but for clothing I take a pick of everything I like. I would like to wear steampunk clothing one day, but I'd need some more time for that
As for my personality...well, I think that ones clothing style does not automatically defines your personality. A bit, maybe, but not entirely.

Anyways, I love these series, they are awesome

Some of the 'babybats' are just posers, like the ones who claim that 'Simple Plan' and Good charlotte are GOTH! WTF?!!? But yes, i hate people who complain about being "unaccepted" and/or promote "openmindedness and originality and liberalism" and then hate on people! What hypocrites!

when I listened (and still kinda do) to korn, slipknot, HIM and stuff, I didn't consider myself as GOTH, but a METALHEAD. or rocker. now I'm more of a cross between vampire and medieval goth, although I still enjoy these bands.

Slightly-Unsettling [2010-06-12 09:15:22 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't call myself a Trad, seeing as I'm fourteen and was not there to experience the scene. But the music would be classified as 80's goth. (Siouxsie, Sisters of Mercy, The velvet underground.) I don't really care about my appearance, or buying the right clothes, since I always figured the whole Goth culture was about the music and literature and whatnot.

Okay. I'll shut up now.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

space-paranoids In reply to WolfEmmpress [2010-03-09 06:47:33 +0000 UTC]

only if you view it as a simple phase to go through, then of course it's "too late". start treating it like the lifestyle it should be, and no one would care if you're too young or too old to be a goth.

ask yourself this, and you'll know what I mean: is it always too late to be an artist?

there are people out there who passionately live their lifestyle until the day they die. veteran Trekkies are like, what? as old as the Star Trek actors themselves, right?

my art teacher from my freshman and sophomore year (had her for 2 years; she taught the same class) is pretty gothic in a way, but more like a beatnik-type person than a goth. but still, she isn't considered "normal" by the mainstream society's standards. and she's 50-something years old.

but still, it's never too late to go goth. people can start at any age to "go goth". the concept of "goth grandparents" never seemed weird to me (it gives me this image of the painting, "American Gothic" though, lol).

I'm goth, I an apply to afew of these things, but not many. I love Manson and I'm pretty young. I don't have money, but when I do, I'm definetly going deeper into the style.

Kinda offensive to younger people, hough. :/ Not all young goths are like that.

I personally believe that I don't have a specific Goth style. Just sorta casual. Ah, well.

You dont need a lot of money in order to be a goth. A crap load of goths make their own clothing.

have you ever done "thrifting" before? plenty of goths buy their clothing from thrift stores. some take it further and even modify the clothing they buy from thrift stores and make it their own unique thing.

of course you don't need to modify every single thing you buy from the thrift store. it will also take a while to find decent items at thrift stores but it's worth looking through them!
