Of course, the majority of Goths are unique in their style and music preferences. However, within the subculture there are certain "types" of Goth with particular characteristics. And it can be fun to classify them. Naturally, classifications for each "type" vary from person to person, so you may disagree with what I say here!I've had so many requests for this one that I moved it ahead of schedule.
I could simply sticking up for the Baby Bats because I was certainly one of them in the past (and I lot of people would say I still am one). However, I could write an entire essay on why I think it's such a shame that some members of the Goth community, renowned for its open-minded, liberal and tolerant attitudes, can be given to such elitism when it comes to the Baby Bats. Surely this kind of snobbery and exclusion in "normal" society is one of the primary reasons why many Goths choose to reject mainstream values?
Rant over. Anyway, I like to think that this pair are Romantic Goth Boy [link] and Rivet Head Girl [link] when they were kids.

Hmm, that's me. o_O I don't like HIM and Manson that much though.. I'm more into heavy metal, death metal, EBM, progressive trance, power metal, epic trance, emo, and some other types of music. For example, here are some of my favorite bands: Amon Amarth, Children of Bodom, The Cruxshadows, Dragonforce, Dream Evil, Kamelot, Nightwish, Panic At The Disco, Queen, The Sisters of Mercy, Trivium, Sonata Arctica, and Wumpscut.
I guess I'm a strange mixture of Baby Bat, Geek Goth, Emo Goth, Metalhead, and Perky Goth. o_O
And yeah, gothic clothing is very expensive! Especially for a 16 year old like me, lol. Bleh, sucks to be a teenager, you're doomed to be broke, AND know absolutely nothing about everything.

Intesresting. It's sad, I'm too young to pull of the "queen of the damned" look, if you know what I mean, but classical enough not to wear tons of makeup to the point where it ceases to be aesthetic. So I'm a little bit stuck O_o. I guess I'm a Rololivammallmediperky goth. (Romantic, lolita, vampire, mall, medieval, perky goth- if that makes any sense.)

I don't think goth should be bound by age at all. I think goths both young and old can look just as fantastic, so don't be disheartened

I will say though that I'm equally annoyed when Babybat types insist they *do* know everything, and artist X is goth, because it's goth for them, and that. The problem with this is that it steals recognition for the older goth acts as people seeking a sound and imagery that may be to their tastes will end up stopping there.
That's what's really killing goth off these days - but it doesn't excuse the subsequent elitism, which is also really what's killing goth off these days.
I think though, that basically, once something is defined once, it should remain with that definition until it becomes defunct. This didn't really happen with the "goth" scene. It was overwritten before it's prime.

Ah, I remember my Baby Bat days (although people do still call me one as I'm only 16 -.- hey I used to be a lot worse!!!). I do like H.I.M. though, they're not bad! Some of my other Goth mates rip me for it XD

my god. This one strikes a chord with me, i must say. I see so many of people like these, and its sad because i feel bad for them at first because they don't know what they've gotten themselves into, and then i get irritated that they don't know anything about goth culture and our heritage, and shamed their my age, and then hateful that they have such mediocre problems like puberty and parents who wont get them that awesome new collar. I just want to bitch-slap these little dorks and tell them there are worse things in the world then being dumped by a girl or ignored by a boy and turning to a dark style of dress stealing the name goth and stomping on it with dirty reboks.

used to be a kindergoth.. still often considered to be one.. hey, you gotta start somewhere.. you'll either start as a baby bat and grow more sophisticated and Gothic as time progresses (or get bored of the style and move on) or turn full-on Goth overnight and be labelled a poser.. I dunno

Well to a point...I still like HIM somewhat but my favorite band is Type O Negative (well but I did like Type O before I ever listened to HIM...maybe I was taking a step backwards when I started listening to them? >_< ) But anyway!
