Description
Of course, the majority of Goths are unique in their style and music preferences. However, within the subculture there are certain "types" of Goth with particular characteristics. And it can be fun to classify them. Naturally, classifications for each "type" vary from person to person, so you may disagree with what I say here! Here it is, at last, by popular demand - the Steampunk Goth

I wouldn't really classify steampunk as a genre of goth in itself, although steampunk has copied some goth traits.
Steampunk women often have a tendency to dive into a more unisex version than what you seem to have depicted here, and they rarely have structured skirts, which you also seem to have illustrated.
Whilst the sci-fi part of steampunk that you mentioned tends to apply when people mod their technology in real life, in fiction it tends to cross into fantasy.
...I love steampunk, but I couldn't pull it off (not that I'd fully want to), as my dad might get a little suspicious if I started ordering leather gloves and corsets off eBay.

Awesome as always. So steampunk is kinda like the animated movie "Treasure Planet"?

Yes, I'd say that's a very good example of Steampunk.
Thank you very much!

oh this is truly genius.I always wanted to suggest a goth type of my own for you to illustrate, but never got around to do it since most are taken.I did think of something once, but forgot about it
I really like your idea.of defining the goth types.though I could never figure out which one I might be.in the end I came to the conclusion that I am a bit of each(almost anyway)
keep it up.hope to see more goth types.

Steampunk is definitely my favorite of any remotely goth style. Great job on this one!
All three bands you listed are really high on my list of favorites, actually. (All have occupied 1st Place at different points at time.)

Could you also recommend any steampunk novels, too? BTW, how many more Goth (stereo) Types are left to cover? I hope there's more!

I must first recommend the Dungeons & Dragons Steampunk gaming book, as it was written by a friend of mine, Mark Allen
All the "steampunk" I have ever read is simply Victorian science-fiction. This includes pretty much anything by:
- Jules Verne
- Mary Shelley
- Edgar Allen Poe (his short stories)
- HG Wells
- Robert Louis Stevenson
Still got a list of around 20 potential Goth Types - but this list grows all thr time.

For modern Steampunk-ish fiction, I'd suggest Kenneth Oppel. Two of his books, Airborn and Skybreaker are quite steampunk. I'm not sure about the others - haven't read them - but I would guess they are, too.

I know of Kenneth Oppel, I had read Silverwing back a few years ago when I heard about its TV adaptation. I know of Airborne, but I didn't know it had a sequel, too. I guess that now since I'm in a library I might as well check it out. Where's the harm?

Exactly. I really liked both books, so does my brother who's reading them now, so I recommend them.

Well, I picked up Airborn yesterday from my library, and I'm liking it so far. I seriously think that you can't go wrong with steampunk.

By far not the first tie I ever heard of this.
I was amazed when I found out it existed though.
Ever since I was a young child I adored this style, but never new of it to be an actual fashion that could be found in the world.
Of course, that was when I was far too young to know of the internet and what could be found there o.o

Steampunk is defenately my favorite. It combines my love for darkness with that of antiquity. And you got to love that "crazy scientist" grin.

Both Mary Shelley and Edgar Allen Poe were Victorian Sci-Fi writers, speculating on the potentials of Victorian technology (few people seem to know that Poe probably wrote as sci-fi as horror, check out his short stories).
