Finally a proper introduction, and a "new" character too!
By the way, Berry is a columnist at the Foal Free Press, she writes critiques about mostly everything. She's quite popular among the readers due to her remarks.
Twinkleshine is indeed one of the most trusted sources of information, since she only gives out information when she's sure enough of their validity, and she doesn't tell them just for anypone either.
Amethyst Star/Sparkler is kind of a "big sister" character in this universe. She's one of the oldest of the crew, and often feels the need to "correct" her friends when they do something that's very much out of the line. Like DD staring into Berry's house through her window. :3
Though she might be upset for them lazing around simply because nopony invited her.
She also loves to dance.
(Also, OTP = One True Pairing. For those who didn't know it this far.)

one downside (at least for me) about the comic is that it's partially a parody and I absolutely hate those.

Indeed she isn't, mostly because she's a bit older than Ditzy in this universe. (Dinky is her adopted daughter here, as I think Ditzy is too young to have a Dinky-aged daughter (again, strictly speaking in the boundaries of this particular universe)).

Also, since Applebloom and Rarity could compete in the Sisterhoof social event even though they are not sisters, Amethyst Star and Dinky doesn't necessarily have to be sisters either. As I see her, she's the number one foalsitter in Ponyville, so lots of fillies see her as their big sis.

Actually, I always had the idea that Dinkie looked up to Sparkler LIKE a big sister. That's why they were together at the sisterhoof social. I just thought that Derpy looked a bit young to have an almost fully-grown daughter. Sparkler would also foalsit whenever she could

My thoughts exactly, tho I went even further and put Derpy around the age of the mane 6, even younger to have a Dinky aged daughter (Berry Punch is one of the oldest of the gang, she's more in a young mother's age), and thus made Dinky her adopted daughter instead.
(I'm working on the details of the aging system, making it more equine than human. Lots of things to work out still, but in my mind aging from a baby to a Dinky aged filly takes shorter time than aging from young adult to adult.)

If you're going by equine years wouldn't they reach child-bearing age faster?

Equine years combined with human age-length (so they live longer than 25-30 years.)
Also, being able to bear a child and being mature enough to be a good mother is quite different though, as the human body can bear a child in its early teens, but that's incredibly far from what is considered a healthy age to bear a child.
But like I said, I'm still working these things out.
