Part eleven: Plot twist Part 11 - The stubborn prince

Simba had run off, away from Mufasa. He had instantly regret the way he had said things to his father. They were rude, he knew. But why wouldn't Mufasa understand that Simba couldn't return to the pridelands? Sarabi, Nala and the other lionesses would blame him for never returning. His life was so great here, but he didn't take the chance to tell his mother and friends about this place.

He sighed and sat down, looking at the sky. It was cloudy, but a few stars were still visible. ''..Kings of the past..'' he mumbled as he rolled his eyes.

''Your father will one day be one of them. You are lucky he found you, you know?'' Simba heard the voice of Rafiki behind him. Simba recognized him. It was the old monkey who had led his father to him.

''I know..'' Simba sighed. ''But I don't understand why he bothers to return. What once was home is no more, it's a mess. You heard my father, right? It definitely won't be fun to go back. It just won't be the same anymore, too much has happened..''

Rafiki sat down besides Simba and nodded. ''No it won't. And I understand why you worry about going back. But here's the way I see it: we are products of our past, but we do not have to be prisoners of it, right?''

Simba shrugged his shoulders. ''I guess so.''

Rafiki smiled softly, and pointed his finger to the stars. ''There's more to life than just what meets the eye, Simba. Everything that has happened in the past defines who we are now. These kings of the past your father has told you about, made the pridelands as beautiful as they were. And so did your father. He is a part of the circle of life, and so are you. And that is something to be proud of.''

Simba looked up at the stars, and remembered his father telling him about the pridelands, the circle of life, and the kings of the past. Simba used to be so excited about being king, which made his father so proud. He knew that. Oh how badly he wanted life to be as it was before..

Simba stood up. ''You are right, old monkey.'' He winked, as the ran away.

Rafiki followed Simba with his eyes, as a smile appeared on his face. ''I always am.''
