maybe you should consider getting a compost bin.
we have one, and everything we don't eat or that goes bad goes in it. we later use the compost for our garden or greenhouse where we grow a lot of thing all from flowers to red onion, yellow onion, chives, carrots, potatoes, kohlrabi, picking lettuce, summer Salad, beans, two types of radishes, sugar peas, strawberries, blackcurrant, currants, gooseberry, blueberries, jostaberry, two types of apples, two types plums, strawberry rhubarb, rhubarb, two types of tomatoes, cucumber, pickles, nasturtiums and paprika.
it's a great way to recycle and we get less general garbage out of it. after all when you sort out the metal and plastic and paper to be recycled. there is hardly any garbage left so we usually just empty the general garbage bin once a month.

I hate that feeling too. I recently made some homemade chicken soup which turned out terribly but I'm trying to eat a little bit of it everyday so it doesn't end up in the trash. XD

I hate that feeling, too. When it's too old or it's past the "best before" date, then there's nothing to do, trying to eat it could make you sick, but it's so sad!
Worse than that is leaving food on your plate, I do this all the time when I can't finish eating. Then I leave it there, because I don't wanna throw it out myself, but I know I should, I mean, at least face it. Best to do is serve little, eat, then serve again.

That's true. Me too, sometimes I try to fool myself by thinking, that it's the guilt of the person, who will litter my food... :/
But you know, there are many scintific researches that show, that you can eat food even after the "best before" date. My "grandma" (actually the aunt of my mom) had eaten food weeks after that date and she's 102 years old now

I can't explain how disgusted I was as a dishwasher at my family's restaurant at what people throw out. 3/4 of steak, almost all the mashed potatoes, and all the green beans would be tossed out instead of boxed up and used for lunch the next day. If that still happens, I don't know. If it does that still makes me angry considering 1 in 5 children in the US don't know where their next meal is coming from or when they'll get it.

Oh... I guess it would be a nightmare for me too, if I had this job. Maybe I'd be sitting in a corner after work eating all the rests, just to save them from being littered
(I know, it doesn't make sense, but that's what my conscience would force me to do)
You should have made something like a restaurant-rule: "Only enter, if you are willing to take the rest with you for lunch the next day"

True, true. I also think it's judging how much you can handle. I myself feel full after just a salad most of the time and others I could raid a whole veggie garden and then look for a non-dairy cupcake afterwards. And the statistics for kids is horrible. I couldn't believe that either when I saw that. I'm thankful all the time I have food in the fridge, but I often do feel guilty...

true, It's not nice to waste food whe so many others can't find any. Just cook as much as you JUST need, that's what I do.

But it's ok, if you put it in the fridge. I watched a lot of documentaries about how long you still can eat food, and sometims even me, I wouldn't have thought, that it was possible.
Of course, the best solution would be to prepare the perfect amount. That's just difficult in a family, where the mother cooks, the father doesn't want to be too economical and the sister sometimes eats and sometimes not (;
But it's cool, if you have the chance to do so (:
