Description More high speed photography like this on my website!

This is a bunch of pictures of eggs being shot with a paintball gun.

Each frame was an individual photo taken hours apart. It was in no way automated as a high speed video camera would be. I shot over 50 eggs creating a HUGE mess: [link]

The advantage to doing it this way is that each frame is much higher resolution than even the best high speed cameras could hope to do.

So the full resolution of the poster is over 250 megapixels.
It can be printed over 6 feet long at 300DPI.

I just saw your crayon shot and clicked on the link. This one's also really cool with the clarity and colors
I hope no one slipped on all of the eggs!

I made this crazy box to contain the mess consisting of a baby pool and a cube of PVC pipes draped with tarps - it did a pretty good job of containing the mess. The worst part was hosing out the mess and getting egg all over myself!

It IS really fun! Sometimes a lot of work, and sometimes a little frustrating, but the end result is always worth it. Thanks!

I know what you mean! I've been taking pictures with water and it gets really messy. I take at least 10 tries to get it right and I spend a lot of time setting up and cleaning up the mess after but yep, all worth it! Really fun but I wish I can do it with a friend >__<

how many eggs did you use for these photos? if they are all individual I guess you had to make a lot of reshots? I can see that the egg varies in shape and size in the first pictures. So they are all not the same egg right?

awesome photos anyway!

TurtleVVisperer In reply to FOERVRAENGD [2011-03-20 19:54:59 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you are correct! I shot over 50 eggs, taking my time to make sure that the setup was as identical as possible for each shot with the exception of the time delay of when the picture was taken.
Luckily I only broke one of the eggs by accident by knocking it off the pedestal they sat on!

That's impressive! Though I guess you had to clean it all up afterwards? 50 eggs is a lot of omelette!

I used a Canon 350D camera and a Vivitar 283 flash for each of these shots.

aow, so its not depending one the camera, right ? its more about the flash stuffs !

nice work anyway

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TurtleVVisperer In reply to Farbod21889 [2010-04-29 00:55:53 +0000 UTC]

Correct, you can take high speed still photos with any SLR camera. You just hold the shutter open while in a completely dark room, and set the flash off at the exact moment so that it illuminates the scene for the camera to see. Flashes can be triggered much faster than cameras can take pictures, so this method lets you photograph really fast stuff like bullets.

Farbod21889 In reply to TurtleVVisperer [2010-04-29 01:04:57 +0000 UTC]

yup, i knew about dark room part, but i thought that would be in a single photo, not seperated photos

TurtleVVisperer In reply to sxy447 [2010-01-17 18:33:19 +0000 UTC]

It was a little over 50 eggs, and then I chose the best pictures for this collage.

Heh, only one of them died in vein. I bumped the stand and it fell to its squishy death.
