Can I get permission to use some of your artwork as background for my comics? If yes, I'll show you where I use any of it.

Sorry, but most of images have had their rights purchased from third parties. So I can not allow you to use my images. If you're willing to pay for usage rights, then we can work something out.

Thanks for your time, sorry if it's any inconvenience.

"For personal desktop use only. Not to be used as stock, edited, or redistributed without my permission."
-seems legit

I mean how would you enforce that? "Hey I'd like to use that as stock." SWIPER NO SWIPING. "lol k using it anyway" ... "DAMN"
Seems effective. Or better yet: "I like this photo. I'm going to download it without informing him, edit it, and upload it. Nobody will ever know."
Or do you just say that, hoping to impose fear into people? Copyrights don't apply when you don't have a copyright. Art is, by default, free to use. I don't even bother discouraging anybody. What are they going to do with it? Lie and impress people with it? Say they made it? Make it better? If somebody wants to improve my art, go ahead. My art is great in its own right, but I'm not infallible. And guess what? You're not either. You're a god of art, but even gods make mistakes. Or is that part of your "my permission" clause? With my permission, you can make my art better. Without my permission, you can make it worse. The whole statement is useless.

Space is just a black void with some lifeless objects. Add in some color, wow... space is just so exciting. Eventually you run out of "real" things to do with space. Eventually you move on, and I'm glad you did.

This has some good overall composition and balance, but it's still just space. Your new style is breathtaking and original, expressive and emotional. This is not your best work, but you already know that.

Alright Steven,

Let me see how to put this. First, thanks for the compliments. I certainly don't see my self as an "art god" by any means, but I appreciate the compliment.

Now that being said, lets dive into this wonderful rant you decided to leave for me.

I add that clause to my images because:

1. My art is copyrighted. I don't know if you taken any time to look the below the image, but there's this nice included (with everything you upload to DA) "Β©2014 TylerCreatesWorlds " So therefore, anyone using this image without my permission is in violation of copyright laws. Ever watch a movie? Notice that FBI warning before it starts? It is illegal.

2. There's a handy little button on DA, most image sites labled "Report Image" It's as simple as clicking that and providing a link to the original artwork. Most law abiding websites will then remove that image because it is in violation of copyright laws and they wouldΒ like to stay in business.Β And yes, I do look for people using my images and report them. I also have a wonderful array of followers who will inform me when they see my art uploaded to other pages. Its amazing what 6,000+ followers can do for you. As you can see, my man Wes has already chimed in to help explain this to you.

3. My art, as much as it is my passion, is also my career. I make a good portion of money selling the usage rights to my images. I've made over $1,300 for the rights to just 3 images. My time is money, and when people take my art illegally and use it for the own personal financial gains, it's like stealing money out of my pocket. I have bills to pay just like everyone else. I can't tell you how many times I've seen my art being sold on other sites.

4. The people that do purchase my art, or commission works from me, do so to establish a professional look for their company or product. They don't pay for the image so that others can freely use it. I've done work for websites, games, clothing companies, album covers, movie posters, apps, ect. They paid for it so that others couldn't use it.

5. I know there is nothing I can do to prevent people from using my work, other than uploading small low res copies of my image with a large watermark across it. I don't like doing this. I upload my art for people to enjoy and use as a wallpaper for the personal desktop, tablet, or phone. I rely on the honesty of people to not use it without my permission. I often have people link me to their art where they've used one my pictures. I then have to tell them they can't use it and then I report the image. I leave this clause below my work so they don't waste the time using in there picture, only to have it removed. I do this as a courtesy to others, because I realize their time is also valuable.Β

6. I realize that my art is not perfect, that's an impossibility that I knowΒ I cant obtain. But my art is my art, itsΒ notΒ intended to be upgraded by othersΒ unless those are the conditions discussed withΒ the client. I see more flaws in my art than any viewer will see.

7. Art is in no way, shape, or form, free to use.Β Royalties and credits are given to the artist when there art is used commercially.

8. When people edit my art, and upload it as there own, I get no credit or recognition for my works. I've seen my art distributed countless times as NASA HUBBLE images. While flattering, it does nothing to get exposure to my name. We've both been on DA for about 5 years. While you have 25 followers, just over 30,000 collective views. My page has over 6,000 followers, over 1.3 million views. My art touches and inspires people the world over. Which for me is payment enough, I've become larger than I could have ever hoped to be, and I'm extremely grateful for all of my fans. But again, this is a career for me.

Feel free to allow others to use you work, there's plenty of people that do. I am not one of those people.

Again, I thank you for your compliments and I hope this will help you understand why I include this clause to my. I'm not the only on DA that does this.

P.S. "Space is just a black void with some lifeless objects" HAHAHAH, ever heard of a placeΒ called Earth? It just happens to be teaming with life in all forms imaginable. Scientist estimate there are roughly 50 billion planets capable of harboring life in just our galaxy alone. With hundreds of billions of galaxies out there. The possibility for life is endless. Please educate yourself before you go making comments like this.

I've purchased some of Tyler's works which has definitely placed me into the fight against copyright violators. The Ghost Nebula is constantly being stolen and uploaded onto stock sites and such, and as the owner I've gone after at least 30 people so far and I've mostly been successful when the site is hosted in the US or English-speaking country. I send out DCMA takedown requests first to the person using the art without permission, and if that doesn't work I contact their web hosting provider. Web hosts are businesses and because they want to stay in business they are usually good about complying with the law. The reason I care about it so much is because the image has become part of my website's identity.

Regardless of copyright laws, please have the decency to respect the wishes of the artist/owner.
