Thank you for all the great comments!
Depending on the complexity of the drawing, it can take 2-4 days to complete. The Halloween pics, like the alien one, I could complete in a single afternoon. I use Photoshop and a Bamboo tablet to create all of it. Happy New Year!

Wow, I can't believe it takes all that time to do such pictures! Though I'm sure it would be more awesome for there to be one of those speed painting pics to really see the magic happen and get more of the idea down.

Fantastic - very in-depth and technical every step of the way
Still love the final product, though. Seems as if Penny's tail has grown a lot since her first deviation here

Huh, never considered the challenge of balancing overall color levels to get the effects desired. Your point on 'not making the scene underwater' is a good one with rain.
I find the differences in the inked face vs. the penciled face rather interesting. That might just be to seeing it on a smaller scale, however.

This is a fantastic breakdown on the creative process, it's not complicated or uses jargon that many people wouldn't understand on a first read. It's also great how you explain your methods because they work for you Pretty sure these can be applied to other digital software tools too primarily PaintToolSai.

Thank you for that. Yeah, I never got the point of tutorialls or instructions where the person reading had to stop, go to wikipedia, find out what something meant, go back, loose your place, and end up more confused then when they started.

Thanks! This was fun and instructive to read. I love knowing the process of how a drawing comes into being. Seeing how you plan the lighting was particularly useful -- mostly I don't attempt shading since I don't know what to do with it.
Not having Photoshop, I do wonder what the "dynamics" setting does to the brush strokes, and whether that's configurable in other programs. That's beyond the scope of your tutorial, of course.

In Photoshop, you can do all sorts of crazy things with your brushes. Heck, I've had it for years and I'm still learning stuff. The Dynamics button transforms your brush from being a static, one thickness brush to a flowing juicy line whose thickness changes with pen pressure. Imagine a sharpie marker's line vs. a brush.

Ah, pen-pressure adjustment: I've got that. Probably could use some fine-tuning (either the tablet or my hand!). Thanks.
