Description
I first made this model a few years ago and forgot about it (it can be seen in my gallery). After attending an industry exhibition late last year it was recommended that I texture the model. Until now i'd avoided doing that, never having textured a vehicle before and thus lacking confidence but I eventually got around to it. Meh, it's OK I guess.Related content

Thanks ^_^. Not quite sure what you mean by "cleaning up". When texturing, I used a basic technique of using colour-range selections in photoshop and painting/filling regions to get a cracked/flaked paint effect, and then brushes to add things like scratches, dirt, and chips on exposed areas.

Ah, Photoshop...I've actually never tried it, I've been sticking with GIMP - though I think both are relatively the same.

nice, though I think d-map shadow is too rough... IMHO

It's a ray-traced area shadow. The "area" is quite large compared to the excavator, so it looks a little strange, a bit like having the whole ceiling of a room illuminated.

mmm... if you've changed AL proportions, OR, if it's not far enough from the model--then it could come up with artifacts like this. Also... I don't know what's your software is, but most I know 3DMax and Maya the AL has both d-map based and RT shadows mode...

it's simply gorgeous. Once I turn in my final I want to go back to the model and make it nice and detailed like this

It looks so different with the textures...it's amazing what they can do to give it even more depth...

Random passerby here. I don't know much about 3D modeling, but this looks like excellent work. It looks like a model right out of a CG movie or game.

Your English is fine, don't worry about it. If by "moto-hours" you mean how much usage this digger has seen, that's hard to say. When I first attempted a texture, it looked far too corroded to the point where it would be only good for scrap. Little by little I kept on removing scratches and rust until it looked worn mostly in the arm section, with the body mostly clean as it is with diggers that are still in use.
