It's the idea behind it. People like myself are intrigued by the idea and the curiosity what caused the incident and how to resolve it. From my perspective you wrote enough to leave it up to the imagination of the reader to see what caused it and how is it going to end. You left exactly the part that is causing me so much trouble when writing. How is it going to start - where and how do we get to an end? This is what makes this short Story so interesting.

Even without help she will eventually turn back.
The transformations in my setting generally aren't permanent. The more the person hates the transformation the faster the spell wares off, but that doesn't mean it can't last A LOT longer than anyone is comfortable with.
(Inversely the more comfortable someone is with their transformation the slower it will ware off, which can lead to some people being objects a lot longer than anyone expected.)

I generally don't do permanent transformations (though there are some ways to do it). Still our little answering machine could be taking messages for many months more, if not years if no one figures it out and helps her.

I love the concept!
Are them able to say what they want or only the recorded words?

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.
They are only able to repeat the recorded words, but the initial recordings are partially based on what they would say.

Maybe Ned will be nice enough to listen to his mutating outgoing message and figure it all out... Of course, he might end up thinking he needs an exorcist, not a witch.

Hopefully. If he does figure it out and try and do something about it then he is definitely a better catch then Steve.

At the very least, one hopes the odds of running into another guy with a vengeful, magic-using ex is fairly low...

You would think so, but somehow people keep running into them. Maybe its just news bias.

Poor little answering machine Cadence. Hope she turns back before she's tossed in the trash.
Wonder if I can buy her out from under Ned XD

She is hoping the same thing.
It probably depends how much you are willing to pay. The add didn't mention the 'eccentricities' of the the answering machine, so I'm not sure if Ned will want to keep it.
