An excerpt from a player's guide I've been writing for Hyrule: Total War, this bit focusing on the enigmatic Order of the Wizzrobe.

The fonts, layouts, and appearance of the guide is heavily inspired (nay, outright based entirely on) the Official Nintendo Player's Guide for Ocarina of Time: zeldauniverse.net/wp-content/u…

The cover of that guide was the very first image I ever saw of anything Zelda related, and pretty much was my entry into the series. That guide itself is pretty unique as well: instead of telling players exactly what to do it was written as a Historical document, chock full of chronology and lore (I know, something extremely rare in the series these days). As such I've modeled my guide in a similar manner: avoiding dumping numbers and statistics on players except where necessary and treating the volume as a historical document.

Please keep in mind that this is a work in progress. Some of the technical aspects (such as Rupee costs) are prone to change as the game is balanced over time. Some features may be removed or have not been fully added in yet as well. Let me know what you guys think, and stay tuned for the other factions to show up!

Just one question. Both the order of the wizzrobe and the sheikah cadre have the status of "creating and destroying empires behind the shadows" Β  Β  Β And i know that the wizzrobes are probably more powerful, but ΒΏWhich one has the highest level of secrecy? I think is the wizzrobes again, but i might be wrong.

I would say the Sheikah are more secretive about what they do. People in Hyrule are aware of the Wizzrobes, and they move around and act in public. I think the difference is the raw power the Wizzrobes have at their disposal make them less afraid of people trying to stop them if people suspect the Wizzrobes are up to something.

The Sheikah keeping information for themselves is more so out of paranoia and a fear of what might happen if everything became public. With the Wizzrobes it's probably more so there's no need to give out information and the normal people really don't even have the means to discover that information.

So what guide will be next do you think?

Probably the Darknuts.

Is this iteration of the Wizzrobes still in the works, or is it live? Because some of those buildings do not seem to be available for construction. An example would be me just recruiting both Crystalline Constructs and Earth Reapers using a Siege works.Β

Still, I have to say that the Wizzrobes are one of my favorite factions in the mod. Nothing really beats spamming Tokay slaves to hold enemy units in place while I nuke them with magic. Speaking of which, will there be a guide like this for the various NPC factions out there?Β

This version of the Wizzrobe is currently available to Patrons, they'll be released publicly on December 25th.

There will indeed be guides for NPC's, here's some samples:

Holy... You have just exceeded my expectations in every way, shape and form, and the mention of a Shadow Hag as part of the upcoming membership requirements only intrigues me further, as that opens up more venues of annexation than just GOTTA GO FAST-ing with diplomats at the start of each campaign.

While being a minor means that my ability to donate is somewhat limited, I nonetheless cannot wait until this update is finally released to the public.Β

Actually I think they're more based on the twilight princess version of the temple of timeΒ

I know that they are wizards and all, or atleast training to be. However, that gives no excuse for frontline combat infantry to wear flowery dresses. Pants would be more practical and, given how expensive those garments look, less expensive as well.

They are not exactly dresses per-se, and they are not too dissimilar from a lot of Medieval Ottoman military attire:

Okay, didn't know that existed, but that was most likely made in order to deflect the sun's rays and thus its heat in order to keep the soldiers cool. Notice how bright most of the examples are? All light contains all the colors of the rainbow and physical colors deflect that light. Thats why european Knights during the crusades wore those tunics over their armor. The thick padding of their gambesons and their heat conducting chain mail, as well as their heat trapping Brigandine armor would have roasted them otherwise.

If those garments were padded they would not have folds. They're probably wearing armor underneath, or the fabric itself is enchanted. As you said, much of their power comes from their enchantments rather than their skill or strength. Also, from what I know, their origins and main focus of operations are in The Kingdom of Hyrule. As I recall, There are no deserts in the kingdom isn't a desert. Again, If their outfits allow them to better use magic then I can accept that.

P.S. Are all Acolytes and Hylian Wizards or do they only look like that due to their armor? I recall that in earlier patches of the game, there was gender diversity in the units (which made it weird to hear masculin death cries from Gerudo). Has that been replaced or am I just not paying much attention to the units in the new gameplay videos?

Why isn't the Advent of Hylia religion considered Idolatry? She is a physical being who gains more worship due to her physical presence instead of metaphysical presence, speaking of why isn't Majora Worship not considered Idolatry either?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

UndyingNephalim In reply to countevil123 [2016-11-17 21:03:03 +0000 UTC]

Idolatry centers around the worship of people or items that are not actually supernatural and have no real powers of any sort. Both Hylia and Majora are clearly powerful entities that wield world destroying powers.

But isn't Vaati worshipped by the Darknuts and he is aΒ Druthulidi just like Majora so why is Vaati considered an Idol but Majora is considered a Diety?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Thirteen1355 In reply to countevil123 [2016-11-21 18:22:00 +0000 UTC]

Also, I wouldn't consider Vaati an idol, as Zalunbar more than fulfills that role.

Though I still don't understand the exact role of Vaati in the Darknut Legion. In The Rise of Ganon, he's constantly hidden in the shadows and lets Zalunbar act as the true king. But in Mission 2, he personally leads an assault against the Wind Tribe and in Mission 24 he's sitting in the open while enjoying a tournament of sorts.

Vaati stole most of his powers from the second Sage of Spirits. Maybe that's why he is considered an idol?

Now that I have seen the guide properly, I can safely assure you that is better than I expected (Which is saying something)
The only memories I have of the wizrobes were those of a one note (and a very ridiculously and goofy note, at that) enemies from wind waker.

And now they are an army of really badass sorcerers, with a very mysterious backstory and lore, and have in their ranks a character I didnt thought it woud not feel out of place (Yes, Lana, iΒ΄m staring at you)
I think that the only faction that went a change like that were the Darknuts (And I canΒ΄t wait to see them in a guide, they are among my favourites) and possibly the River Zora.

As you said, never underestimate a dissapinted fan with a point to prove.

Very impressive!Β  It's nice to see the Wizzrobes with an upgrade, though Carock's backstory is kind of sad; still, television has taught me that a good villain needs such a backstory, and everyone loves a good villain.

Also love how Hylia is implemented in HTW.Β  Though my theory is currently that she was basically left behind as a guard for the Triforce and things got....complicated with the whole Demise thing, leading her to decide that the best option was to move the Triforce, attendant Hylians, and wide assortment of random rocks into the sky-presumably because Demise's main fliers were, well, Keese, which nobody would take seriously, and she had been informed some of those Hylians were going to be important someday.Β

Doesn't explain why Skyloft seems to know almost nothing of the Three Goddesses that are the crux of religion in most of the other Zelda games, but it does explain why there's a random extra goddess around-if there were light spirits (Ordona, Eldin, Lanayru, Faron, etc.) left to guard regions of the world, there was probably a chosen guardian for the pointy bit of INFINITE COSMIC POWER left behind too, and it DOES explain why she essentially ceases to be after she's made arrangements for a pointy-eared twerp in a green hat to always reincarnate and go get an anti-evil sword every time Demise's curse or some other evil decides they want the Triforce.

Of course, the whole thing with Ganon apparently being affected by the curse of Demise' hatred or whatever (haven't played that bit of SS in a while....) does kind of make me feel bad for Ganon, as well as explain why he hasn't learned better given that he doesn't reincarnate and have to relearn everything nearly as often as Link; hate is blind, and he's affected with a load of it that isn't even his-every time a shiny triangle, Hylian princess, or pointy green hat shows up he abandons all common sense and runs whatever kingdom he has into the ground trying to come up with a deathtrap that works instead of, say, invading Termina instead.

....I have no idea how I got that off-topic.Β  It's probably a good sign a chapter of the guide to your game is so inspirational...?Β
