I just tested it in explorer and it still didn't work so maybe it has to be updated or something so I could look at it at some point if you want.

if youΒ΄d do that, thatΒ΄d be great. itΒ΄d be a shame if one of my best buds on DA couldnΒ΄t reach one of my things
i still have the file on flashdrive from when i uploaded it the firts time. though all the original work is on my old - unplugged pc. if you want it, i could send it, not even 1 Mb in size

wow great tutorial!!
it looks so difficult to do a chain mail
π: 0 β©: 1
unreal-hunter In reply to FrealaF [2008-01-13 13:32:06 +0000 UTC]
itΒ΄s not so hard, once youΒ΄ve got the beginning. from there itΒ΄s doing the same over and over, basically. though with making specific pieces itΒ΄s a little more complicated.
if youΒ΄re interested in making your own chainmaille, i suggest making test patches of the weaves you want to use before you actually start a project. this will help you get familiar with the weave.
and thank you for liking the tutorial^^

Oh-Em-Gee thank you. I have searched long and hard for a tutorial that will finally teach me how to do the Half-Persian and get it to work, and yours is the only one I've found that works for me!!

well thatΒ΄s nice to hear ^^.
I'm glad to see my tutorial is actually helping people master the art of chainmaille

For the Byzantine weave, is it supposed to stay in that shape once one pattern of links has been completed? Because mine keeps mixing itself up. Am I using too high an ID?
π: 0 β©: 1
unreal-hunter In reply to smilie-terrorist [2007-09-23 19:07:01 +0000 UTC]
byzantine chain keeps it's shape as the aspect ratio goes down (rings become smaller of wire becomes thicker)
it's not a disaster, but it's prettier if the shape stays intact.
try using around 6 or 7 mm ID rings with 1,2 mm wire. that gets you rings that retain the form, whilst stil being flexible

smilie-terrorist In reply to unreal-hunter [2007-09-23 19:49:25 +0000 UTC]
I'm using 4mm ID rings with 0.8mm wire atm. I made more if the chain, and it seems to be holding its shape quite well. Though I do need to look for a way of making smaller rings. ^^ Also, would the pattern hold up better in a hyper Byzantine weave?
π: 0 β©: 1
unreal-hunter In reply to smilie-terrorist [2007-09-26 18:35:31 +0000 UTC]
absolutely. the hyper-weave supports the chain next to it, and adds to the overal stability.
though if you're gonna try it, keep this in mind: hyper byzantine only flexes in the direction of the chain. it isn't as flexible as euro 4 in 1 (example)
though i must admit I don't know how your ring configuration holds out to that statement. let me know if you give it a try k?
good luck

smilie-terrorist In reply to unreal-hunter [2007-09-27 16:45:28 +0000 UTC]
I see, so if the chain was constructed horizontally (like in your tutorial), then a hyper byzantine sheet would only be able to bend vertically?
Sure, I'm going to try to make a bracelet out of it, for a sort of school project. Putting embellishments inside it is really hard though - but I may not, seeing as the weave itself is a very nice pattern.
Thanks!

sounds like fun, you should post pics when itΒ΄s done.
and maybe you should do a rim of boxweave or persian chain along the edge in the end, or else it will look all messy and ragid

smilie-terrorist In reply to unreal-hunter [2007-09-29 22:41:19 +0000 UTC]
Though how would I attach a Persian chain to the Byzantine chain? Should I use half-Persian?
π: 0 β©: 1
unreal-hunter In reply to smilie-terrorist [2007-09-30 14:31:06 +0000 UTC]
oh, thatΒ΄s not hard. look at the hyper byzantine sample in my gallery.
along the botomside, there are rings that are flat on the surface (they appear perfectly round, not oval shaped). hook 1 ring through it and beging your full persian chain from there, then when you reach the next along this line, do it again. this will create a rim of full persian, though it's not that well conected i admit. if you mess around a bit, you might find other methods of conecting it, but this is what i know works

thanks for your comment and fav, it's always nice to know your work gets appreciated.
and i do urge you kindly to try out chainmaille. for the results are always so rewarding ^^. then again i guess it depends on the person making it whether they are satisfied with thier results or not.
thanks anyway

like it says, more will be added in the future
I just didn't have time (or spirit) to make that one yet
(I put it on now because people at school are interested, and a certain group of friends of mine, wanted to learn more weaves)
but if you say this because you wanna learn, say so and i'll get on it asap

dude thats awsome what did you use to make the rings i love the sounds on the main page lol

unreal-hunter In reply to SDragon029 [2006-11-06 19:22:06 +0000 UTC]
ehm, i used Anim8or, a 3d moddeling program. You make a cilinder, about 28 times longer than it's wide (I took diameter 4 and length 113)
bind a morpher to the entire length, and make a 360 bend. it takes a bit of practice, and lots of patience.
this works for most weaves, of corse dragonscale and japanese are different stories.
thanks for liking it^^
I'll be making journal updates for every time I update the tutorial

awsome where did you get the program from any ways??? well i guess i better start watching your journals as well lol
π: 0 β©: 1
unreal-hunter In reply to SDragon029 [2006-11-07 14:49:27 +0000 UTC]
lol, I got the program online, it's free for all
just type anim8or in google, you should get the main page
it does have some drawbacks to professional programs though, no tutorials, a lot of functions that I have no idea what they do, and I can't get the lighting the way I want it (not always anyway)
other than that, it's a great program to make simple models, or high grade ones^^
