that really depends on what you want it too look like. 12 in 2 is used a lot actually, just doubling all the rings in jap 6 in 1.
with it, you could make a strip (a narrow line of sheet) and turn that into a bracelet for instance. The problem is that, as a sheet, 6-1 is built up of big rings lying in contact, connected by small rings. the big rings have the space to overlap, and they will.
[link]
if this is the kind of thing you've got in mind, then yes, replicate what you see there and it will work.
If you've got something else in mind, i suggest you try and scetch it out first. put that up in your scraps and notify me, then I'll take a look (that way I'll know of certain what you mean with straight line)

never appologise for being new at something, or you're not going to learn anything
if what's in the link is what you're looking for, then yes you can replicate that and make it.
the key to japanese maille is that you have two ring sizes, one big, and the other just a hair bigger than two wire diameters of the big ring (inner diameter) you can try it out and see for yourself. give it a whirl and see where you land, that's the way to learn maille

^^ thanks. it's a bit old though. probably around five years now.
I should bring out a new version, but stuff just keeps gaining on me >.<
anyway, glad you like it. Go give it a try if you fancy ^^

Yeah, stuff like that happens. Reality just has to come and get in the way, gosh! XD hehe!
Unfortunately I'm not so crafty. If I could manage to get the materials I might, but I don't know how well I'd do.

in that case, remember what you said in the page thread.
If you're going to try something new, give it your all ^^
the choice will always be yours, but it might be a way to get in touch with your inner crafter. then again you are a writer, going into crafts might upset the balance of things

Thanks ^^
yeah, I was pointed to that before, sadly I no longer have the flashfile to edit this mistake.
Still thinking of making a new, expanded version.
But starting from square one with the available time I have isn't really happening right now

IΒ΄m glad you were able to understand. It is one of the more complicated ones, and most tutorials forget to mention there is a mirrored version.
^^ thank you for your input

If you are having trouble with the half persian 3 in 1 you could try using different colored rings for the two rings joined thru the 1 at first and the closed ring you add in the next step. That helped me keep track at first, then I switched once the chain was more stable. Or you could not switch cause it looks pretty radical when its two colors. Thanks again for making this tutorial

unreal-hunter In reply to StormyOak [2010-08-15 21:45:24 +0000 UTC]
you're welcome ^^
yeah two toned rings do work pretty sweet, but as you may know I work with steel only. No colorful aluminum rings for me plz
What I do is string those first few rings on an end of yarn. That works wonders though I don't make persian chain as often as I used to.
π: 0 β©: 1
StormyOak In reply to unreal-hunter [2010-08-16 00:26:43 +0000 UTC]
The yarn is a great idea too, I will try that next time! I was actually referring to the colored rubber rings, which could also lend stretch to a bracelet if a person didn't want to have to figure out a clasp for it. I very rarely use the aluminum rings, I find that they just don't feel right (too light, I think) and they tend to show wear more. Thanks for the advice about the yarn

youΒ΄re welcome, advice is something I really enjoy sharing. It might not be your favorite, but itΒ΄s always worth a try.
Ah so you meant those rubber rings. Yeah IΒ΄ve seen nice things with them. Personally I donΒ΄t believe in rubber rings, but thatΒ΄s just a personal viewpoint.

You're welcome <3
And yeah,
It does look amazing C:
I'm really planning on trying to make a bracer out of chainmail based on this tutorial C:
Like you did with [link] C:
π: 0 β©: 1
unreal-hunter In reply to SummerWolfSpirit [2010-07-12 16:25:08 +0000 UTC]
want my advice? start with a regulair bracelett, because chainmaille eats up a lot of time, and something as big as a full bracer can become a daunting task
when the bracelett is done and you want more, you can expand it, but if you've had enough for a while, you still have something to wear.
Also should you have any question, feel free to ask ^^

SummerWolfSpirit In reply to unreal-hunter [2010-07-12 16:26:41 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm,
I'll try that!
First I'll have to go and get the materials
But I'll certainly try making a bracelet first if you recommend that C:

unreal-hunter In reply to SummerWolfSpirit [2010-07-12 16:31:49 +0000 UTC]
you can look in your parent's shed for some wire, or head out to the local Gamma
(problem is that's all galvanised, which'll tarnish over time)
I know a couple of places where you can get stainless steel, but it won't be cheap >.<
and you can also strip grounding wire for copper
(just some things I found out over time)
π: 0 β©: 1
SummerWolfSpirit In reply to unreal-hunter [2010-07-12 16:37:54 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm,
I know some places here in town too.
Though I don't know if they have stainless steel...
I'll check and if they don't have it, I'll come to your page and ask you for those places
And I could always use Ebay as last resort, lol

Haha, I was playing with deforming my own voice. I now think it's somewhat childish.
There are a lot of good tutorials out there, but the best way is step by step is my belief.
(I guess that might be the reason why I stalk all new metalwork )

ice-deathrunes In reply to unreal-hunter [2010-03-30 21:41:11 +0000 UTC]
woot. i probably will try other tutorials, but damn! some of them are confusing as hell. bysantine is the bane of my chainmail existance!

unreal-hunter In reply to ice-deathrunes [2010-03-30 22:40:05 +0000 UTC]
how come?
If done methodically, byzantine is easier than full persian chain.
Though I can see it being chaotic too.

well, have yet to succeed at doing i like to think. i'll get it eventually. maybe larger rings will help...
π: 0 β©: 1
unreal-hunter In reply to ice-deathrunes [2010-04-01 09:40:31 +0000 UTC]
hmm, depends on the rings you were using on your first attempt, byzantine can be done wit aspect ratioΒ΄s as low as 3. but bigger is better when youΒ΄re starting to get the hang of a weave
π: 0 β©: 1
ice-deathrunes In reply to unreal-hunter [2010-04-02 01:11:50 +0000 UTC]
yea, that's very true, but, i think it's the folding and looping involvd in byzantine that keeps throwing me off. i might get it if i just practice more.

hmm I just took another look at the tutorial and when I go into a category such as European I cannot see the different patterns all I see is a white background with no text but I can hover over to click on the links but that's about all I also do see the back button. So you might wanna take a look into that.

it's just a theory. but i guess too high or too low a version might block it?
i don't know for sure. maybe try swiching from Internet explorer to firefox or vice versa? my Internet Explorer runs in like i made it, so i think it isn't the file itself
