Description
this is a picture of a weave i've come up with inspired on the byzantime chain weave.i call it Hyper Byzantine and i haven't seen anyone use it yet (and i've been around
In the meantime, it's a very thick sheatweave that has a good flexabilaty in the long direction, and limited flex in the short one. appart from that, it's really dence. and my bow and arrows can't pierce it.
seeing as i'm currently captivated by this new weave (new to me), i'm putting current projects as my nearly done bracer on the shelf for a moment (sorry guys)
materials:
16 gauge whire (i think, it says it's 1,3 mm)
1/4 ID
construction level: high
durability: high
BP: i think so...
UPDATE!!!
- I was not original, someone beat me to it...I found the same patern on a site... sorry guys, I didn't know...
- See my journal Rectification for details
- The tuturial was moved to my scraps pages by the board. i will keep it there cuzz i'm lazy ^^
got questions? ask! ^^

Depends on the aspect ratio. this sample was pretty tough to do because the final close made the complete product pretty solid. and as there was little rome to move,so the proces of production got harder.
But like with most weave, once you figured out the ringsize you want to use, and the order of steps to do it in, it becomes semi-automatic.

check out my scraps
DA board moved it there, and i've been too lazy to move it
I'm working on a better, flashbased version. but that one is still being made.
thanks for liking it

thats awsome but how did u join the chains of byzantine together??? why galvy steel??? and how can u tell the construction level, durability, and BP(bullet proof right?)???

unreal-hunter In reply to SDragon029 [2006-09-08 10:36:16 +0000 UTC]
i'll post an how2 soon, i'm just vorking on highlighting.
bacically, you continue the byzantine chain in a staircase system.
why the galvy steel? dunno what type of steel i used, the only one available to me, that's all i know.
since i coil my worms myself, i take what whire i can get, and this is the only one i can get.
construction level, i've tried out like 80% of all weaves out there. of coures it's not as dificult to make as Euro 6 in 1. but it's still pretty hard to figure out where rings go (as is typical with all byzantine)
durability? i know what the individual rings can take, and how the rings within Hyper Byzantine react when force is aplied. that, and the fact that my arrows (i tested 3 arrows) did not even phase it.
and i haven't tested BP (yup bullet proofability), but i know what a bullet does. and cince this sheat is as thick as the rings you use, the projectile'd hit layer upon layer, slowing it down. of course no armour can hold a sniper shot, but against the standard handgun. i estimate that it'll withstand it.
(ps, it shines like that, because i oiled it for the photo's (teacher's idea)

Wow- this is a marvellously thick weave! Looks nice, too. I like the variety of shapes and patterns it produces. Would be great maybe in different colours of aluminium.
Sounds fantastically strong, too- but in steel I imagine would be way too heavy to wear as armour. I think even titanium would be quite weighty!
I noticed you mentioned bulletproofability- but didn't spot anything else about that in later comments. Did you ever try? I've heard that a bullet will shatter the rings it hits, (so actually makes the problem worse), but then, since this is layers, it might offer some protection. It's an interesting point- if you ever actually tested it, I'd love to hear how it held up.

The airgun is quite impressive- I would have expected any small projectile to force its way through.
Eh. Steel is a good material- it does everything, pretty much. Aluminium wire is about as hard as marshmallows (and much more expensive), so you're not missing much. Stainless steel would be awesome, though- I've never seen it anywhere, construction or otherwise (but really haven't looked that hard).
If you want some colour variation with the galvanised stuff, try copper plating it. That works well and it's easy to do. Just dip some of your wire in vinegar along with something made of copper.
I'll have a look at your tutorial- though I think that making something like this would drive me crazy!

unreal-hunter In reply to kingtut98 [2007-09-23 19:22:05 +0000 UTC]
have tested it, with an pressurised airgun mind you.
that testshot, it held up nicely, since there are a lot of rings vertically on the line of fire, the impact is diverted. though the testshot was with halfhard ammo, i think sharp ammo would endeed shatter the rings completely,or crush them into the skin at least.
further, it suprised me how not heavy it is in contrast to the bulky look. i guess it's bcause a lot of air is trapped within. I don't work with alu wire, it doesn't really exist here in the Netherlands, and stainless steel is used in cinstruction only. I have to make deu with galvanised, which works well for me.
but feel free to experiment as much as you like, the tutorial is in my CHAINMAILLE TUTORIAL flashfile
thanks for your comment and interest

alright thanks for the information about it very informative.....also i think the metal that u used ended up being galvanized steel.
but u really have a bow and arrow awsome. well no armor can hold a sniper shot yet. what oil did you use???

ehm, vaseline spray, for my bike chain. your hands get really dirty, but it shines nice for a couple of days.
For a more permanent shine, btw, i use silver-pollish, which can keep it shiney for about 3 weeks(if left in a dark corner somwhere
ehm, yes i have a bow and arrows, I found them on a market about 1,5 years ago the guy was selling high-inducing insence, and he had these hanging in the back of his....tenty thingy. maybe i'll post a pic of em someday.
tuturial's coming soon, i hope before monday^^.
oh, and there is sniperproof armor.....tank armor
