Final Note: Sorry that I might seem to be a annoying but like a few of you I do enjoy an educational conversation.
My point is not to bash your belief or disbelief but rather to tell you that it doesn't matter. We need to stop looking at the deity behind Religion but observe the humans that seem to need religion. The argument whether God exist or not is completely irrelevant. What is relevant, however, is why does it seem to persistently exist? Unlike other humanity idiosyncrasies that have been reevaluated and completely abolished from mankind; religion seems to be the only thing that has been heavily studied and evaluated and still stand even until today. Without religion people will see government as sole ruler and emperor, almost as gods. With religion people will dream up of beings that have no physical form, besides an idol if they actually do go through the effort in making one, and imagine a personality that coincides with the whimsical being.
"The more I study religions the more I am convinced that man never worshiped anything but himself." ~ Sir Richard Francis Burton
He was right on, let's take a step further, shall we?
"Humans are nothing more than the realistic material form of the God/s that they worship." ~ JetsuSeal

No, ideas don't matter. They can change. Fact don't matter, because they're absolute. Belief DOES matter, because people die in their names.

And that's balls. Human don't need a religion. If we needed it, then there would be something fundamentally wrong, mentally, socially, emotionally and/or physically wrong with every single atheist. Aside from the average ups and downs that everyone goes through, I don't see myself needing religion in any way, shape or form. The argument to whether or god does is exists is important.

And that is one of the greatest 'fuck you' I've ever seen someone make to every human beings intelligence. I don't believe in any god, but I don't consider the government to be a religion, nor do I think I'd be stupid enough to ever consider that.

And no, there's no wisdom behind behind what you say, and you don't get to supersede someone's 'spot on' quote with your own - that's just painful arrogance on your part. And any way, you quote doesn't say anything other that Sir Richard's said. All you've done in reword it and hoped I'd see some sort of extra wisdom thereafter.

This has just become my favorite quote ever. XD It also made me think of this translation; "Gimme yo' Taco Bell for my nuts, ho!"

What's the point of this? Mere trolling purposes? Think about this: Trying to cure stupidity from humans is like trying to cure water of oxygen. Religion will always be there because there will be always some elitist troll to oppose it.

What? That doesn't even make sense. Religion will continue to exist because someone opposes mythology?

Mythology to you. Reality to others.
Ever notice that the more you provoke a fire the more it spreads? About 809 Million (And that number is completely anecdotal, I'm almost certain if actually taken the time to see how many deaths they're you'll see it's much higher.) have died by the hand of religion, yet, religion still exist. Only option now, is a even GREATER mass genocide. And with a new world, with rampant disorder we will need a new form of government for the anarchy, thus, another rudimentary form of religion is born.
Either way, I was just pointing out that Religions and Humans are synonymous just like Tigers and Dangerous.

It's not reality to anyone.

To point out something stupid in the bible, obviously. To give fellow atheists something to laugh at, assumingly.

And that statement about religion is balls. If you believe it, then you too are balls. Religion won't always exist. Anyway, religion persists because of itself, not because of some elitist troll has said 'I won't believe it'.

Again, if you believe what you've written here, you are balls. Mentally, you are balls.

Yeah sure religion wont exist for too long.. after all it is only older than language itself.. religion exist because just as an tiger instinctively will kill any threat as a human believe in something beyond. atheism is illogical and more ignorant than religion. Laughing at something that technically plagues our world is sadistic and childish. if you ask me religion is better controling the world rather feral lunatics who laugh at pain and suffering. Do you even know what you stand for as an Atheist? God Bless.

Atheism is Illogical? As opposed to what? The idea that the earth is 6000 years old and was created by a white dude on a cloud who hasn't show a single bit of proof that he actually exists?

Oh, yes - the logic of the bible is totally superior.

Except for that area where it isn't - you know, the 'everywhere' in it.

And 'the hell are you talking about? Laughing at pain, sadism and being childish, am I? Where did I do that? I think you're confusing what you said I should be concerned (which you, arrogantly and insultingly, assumed I wasn't concerned with) with with what I'm laughing at in the picture.

And yes, I'm aware of what I stand for as an atheist. I ask you can you remember what you've even written here? Because all you've done is accuse me of things I haven't done, made baseless claims and insulted me greatly for nothing.

Ass.

When it comes to sources of humour and mockery you have the following to choose from; the failure of the Catholic church to deal with rampant child abuse in its own ranks, the failure of the Anglican church to believe anything in the bible, the complete failure of all churches to challenge capitalism, profiteering, free-market economic theory, offshoring, downsizing, immigrant exploitation and tax evasion. Then there's the clownlike idiocy of politicians, the vacuous reporting in most media channels.

Yet you choose a thing you know nothing of to sneer at.

I know enough about the bible to 'sneer' at it, thank you very much. And I don't recall saying that this is the only thing I 'sneer' at, either.

You don't know a damn thing about me, and I'll ask you to stupid with the clownlike, mindless supposition that you do.

That is hilarious...

The more I read things in the bible, the bigger the desire to make a parody of it comes into place. I just wanna make an entire book translating what God really wanted to say.

Why does God need food to begin with? Isn't he supposedly the holy-maker of the universe? Can't he just make his own food out of air if he's so hungry? Why does he gotta steal it from us?

Man, God sounds like a free-loader in this verse.

I could be wrong, but I think the idea is that people should be willing to trust God and give up what they have for the sake of others (for example, the monks and priests and such who, then at least, survived on offerings and such, as well as those they gave sanctuary to), and in return they would be taken care of.

VacuityMechanica In reply to Novalyyn [2011-08-07 03:33:25 +0000 UTC]

Trust him enough to give him their food when he asks? Or kill your son when he asks? Or marry the person that rapes you because they spoiled you?

And they'll be rewarded for it?

I'm sorry, but if someone said that today I, and I'm sure many other people, would call scam, psycho, monster and overall shenanigans on them.

Yeah, I imagine so. Was just saying, s'all. I think it's supposed to be trust, not the food itself, that's important there. *shrugs*
