And here we have my little bit of life in the somewhat stagnant pool of War of the Monsters fanart, the four looks of Togera. Granted, there is so little source material other than looking at the character on the game screen, so I had to take a few liberties, (especially on Mechatogera)Now granted, this was just for fun, more likely than not this won't be any part of the planned fan sequel I'm working on, though I tend to change my mind

Haha, sorry about taking so long to reply to this, comments tend to stack and get forgotten.
Well, the sequel is largely still in the drawing board stage, but I do have some details released. I plan on doing a sequel 10 years after the first, mankind searching for a way to reverse the alien fuel mutation, when, of course, something goes horribly wrong.
It will probably be a while before anything gets posted about it.

Well, as I mentioned in the artists comments, I pretty much had to pick the closest color I could find for each skin. Had there been more images of him around I'd have gotten it right, but I was forced to pretty much take a shot in the dark.

Aaah, gotcha. Yeah, finding screens of the costumes is a lot harder than it should be! I tend to forget about it, but the old WOTM flashsite does have some screens on it. Here are a few I found there:

I believe there was actually some very neon-blue spots on his 2nd skin.
It was also my favorite skin, though the Devil skin comes close.

Thanks, and I'm pretty confident that the colors are as you see, I played the game as I drew them. The mecha was slightly darker than I did in the end, if that's what you mean.

Not the mecha, the 2nd skin, it's not red it's dark purple of some sort. But he looks cool in red ^^

Togera was flat out awesome to use since he's so well rounded and yet once you get into his combos has a deal of depth to him. He's bit sneaky too as his range is misleading at times. The single player campaign didn't make fighting him awesome enough.
Looking through them I'd say you got the general idea of all of color swaps. The second choice was purple...I always found that pretty funny. I always liked the Mecha and Devil swaps. Togera had some really neat colors there. I think you did a good job of diversifying them a bit. Though I'd think Devil Togera would have most of the anatomy like the tail club except just serrated and more extreme, nice choice with the super claws though. I think the horns could have been a bit bigger on that one though.

Agreed, I wanted to see him more in story mode. There are two levels with Robo 47 darnit!
I was playing the game as I drew him, and they gave devil Togera a little spike on his tail instead of a club. The horns, yeah, not quite long enough looking back.

Really? Gonna have to take another look lol. You're right about Robo 47, that fight in the city was either hellishly annoying or very easy. I could never get the city to have the massive earthquake and that's always annoyed me.

He was one of my favorite characters to play, being a Godzilla fan it was just way too much fun! I dare say i enjoyed that old game more so then any of the new monster brawlers.
Anywho, you did great, just a few tiny touch ups and Tog' doesn't need much more.
I have always loved using either his mecha form and his "Barny" colors. There is something unspeakable epic about whipping your best friends into the dirt with a purple dinosaur.

Indeed, tog's is one my favorites as well, and Wotm was and still is truly magical compared to some later games.

Togera is indeed quite awesome
He's one of the many characters from an old PS2 fighting game called War of the Monsters. Each monster was modeled after a classic monster movie archetype. Togera was modeled after Godzilla, but there's also a King Kong, an Ultraman, and so on, all done very well, representing without copyright issues and all.

man why do i miss out on all these awesome games? that game sounds really cool and fun. must have be interesting to see their designs too. at first i thought he was going to be a turtle monster i mean Togera sounds turtleish but when the picture loaded it was way better. so what was the storyline of that game about?

Well, there's a little Gamera in Togera's design too, so I can see the connection.
The plot. . . is like the classic sci-fi monster film to end them all. It starts when a race of aliens violently invade earth. Earth creates a weapon that succeeds in destroying the alien ships all at once. The ships crash, and their fuel is quite radioactive. Thus, monsters start popping up. Togera, like Godzilla, was sleeping on the seafloor until some of the fuel flowed into his nose, and the other monsters have very different origins, all involving the fuel.
And, basically, the monster you play as (there are 10 of them) goes through the storyline, in which they eventually save the earth from the supposed leader of the aliens, the massive brain monster Cerebulon. It's repetitive, but's lawdy is it fun!

Hahahaha it went up his nose? youd think that when something odd enters your nose youd try to get it out but hey i wouldnt knowing it would turn me into a huge unstoppable monster. but what is Togera?
The storyline doesnt sound like anythink revolutionary but it does take a page out of Metroid lol. but it still sounds very awesome to play.

What he is? Well, he's like the old ecplanation of godzilla, an unknown giant dinosaur monster that was sleeping at the sea floor.
As far as story goes, it was made to embrace the classics, so not being revolutionary was a job well done. I'm sure you could find it online, that's how I had to find it.

ah i see so it mirrors godzilla's story essentially. cool. also to think about it they classics were awesome. at least some were lol. i got to look that up one of these days but you did a really great job drawing em. but why does he have 2 other forms? oh and what year did the game come out?

It came out in 2003 I believe.
The four looks are skin alternate skins to play as him in. That was so they could fit more monster cameos into one package.

No, the fighting style remains the same in each, minor differences in attack appearances, but the same moves at the core.

ah so with the red one youd probably see more fire effects and with the robot you see more electric/metal effects sorta right? so which design of him is your favorite?
Oh really? i figured she was his mother since her title was "The Mega Mother". hmmmm good for Ronis hes a good kaiju and deserves a good mate. hes sort like Zilla in a way. hmmmm does Ronis have any relationship with that guy in the story or they just separate?
