Awww, thank you very much. It's a blast coming up with new designs. Pattern brush creation is hard but satisfying. The folks at Vanity Fair seemed to like it a lot so that makes me happy.

I recommend the Zen exercises in any of the Illustrator WOW books by Sharon Steuer [link] It teaches you the basics of the pen tool and hand positions on the keyboard.
If you can afford it, any of the training DVDs from Deke McClelland [link]
I've learned more from Deke's tutorials than anything. His videos are comprehensive and fun and give you inspiration to try different methods.
