Description Yay! 'Tis competitor I'm submitting for 's OC tourney, Viper's Colosseum: [link]
Never done anything like this before, so please, bear with me. And jab me in the ribs if I'm doing something wrong.

Name: Riese Kiff, "Dusk"
Age: 19
Height: 4'11"
Origin: Unsure, presumed originally Germany

Powers: Necromacy

Abilities:
Shadow Walk - A form of teleportation allowing Riese to jump into one shadow and out of the other.
Drain - Riese can severely weaken a person physically or mentally. Those more proficient with this skills can use it to strengthen themselves simultaneously, but she never got that far in her training.
Decay - An amplified version of drain, it literally rapidly ages and rots a person's muscle tissues while healing Riese's own. Again, that part only in theory, though.
Toll - A whistled note that can banish all who hear it, living, dead, and even Riese herself, into the Five Rivers. The pitch of the notes determines which river they're banished to.
Tales - Minor reanimation of the dead. Brings the person's conscience back, but with only the ability to speak. Shadow Banes are expected to banish the beings as soon as they have the information they need.

Personality:
Dedicated and driven, Riese has committed herself to defending those who can't defend themselves from the ghosts and ghouls of the underworld. Though noble and stoic, she's compassionate, friendly enough, and always grateful for help, perhaps even a bit more trusting than she should be. Her arrogance has lessened after years and years of defeat, but she has been known to get cocky when the odds are looking in her favor. She has a weakness for strawberries.

History:
The Shadow Bane
There are things that go bump in the night; ghouls, zombies, demons, whole hosts of undead. The Shadow Bane were formed to bump back. Modern ninjas, for lack of a better word, they combat the forces that claw their way back from the beyond by wielding their own powers of darkness back against them. Highly disciplined, the bond between student and master is considered stronger and more important than those of family. A student whose master has been killed is forced to leave the village, halting all training until their master is avenged, the guilty party being hunted down and killed. The student is not allowed to return until their task is complete. Only then can they resume training under a new master.

The Five Rivers
The underworld is broken down into five different rivers, hence it's name: The Five Rivers. Each has distinct characteristics and is marked by a waterfall, those whose souls pass over the fifth going to their final rest. The Shadow Bane, and even just those of strong will, are given the ability to walk against the flow of the river, to return to the land of the living from even as far as the fifth river (those who pass beyond that are lost like any other. The rivers do have their effect though, and any Shadow Bane who has travelled them is marked by their albino-like appearance, a side effect of wading through their waters.

Riese
An orphan who found her way to the Shadow Bane by chance, Riese grew up like so many other's in her clan; dedicating herself to protecting the living from the dead. She was dedicated and driven, showing the kind of promise that hadn't been seen in decades. Whatever potential she may have had however was wasted when her master was killed when she was 14. No one saw what had happened, no one had any idea who could have done it. As far as the rest of her clan was concerned, they were sending one of their most valuable students out on a hopeless mission, and would never be seeing her again. But rules are rules, and so Riese has been on the hunt ever since.

Well, not ever since. True, she wasn't allowed to continue any more official training, but there were no rules saying she couldn't do the work of the Shadow Bane while she was out and about. Over the years, she trained on the job, banishes the undead where she ran into them, and even taking on villains beyond those which she usually faced to continue to defend those who couldn't do so themselves. For lack of a better word, she was becoming a bit of a superhero. She would have been content to continue this lifestyle forever, but over the years two things happened. Feelings of guilt began to grow, for not yet having avenged her master, and she became homesick. She began to refocus her efforts on her original mission, but with no information to work from, any progress made was slow and painful. After hitting a huge amount of dead ends, she began looking for leads anywhere. This blind searching is what lead her to Viper's Colosseum. Her fighting style is prominently weapon based, putting her at a disadvantage, but if she can get at least a shred of an answer from any of the competitors or organizers, she will consider the tournament entirely worth her time.

Oh, I like her! Very much curious about the Five Rivers, as you state they each have different characteristics, but you don't specify what those different characteristics are. Hope we have a chance to see Riese and Virtus go a few rounds against one another. Until then, welcome to the tournament!

Yeah, I was gonna go and describe them all, but then I figured it would be too long and no one would read it

But yeah, her vs Virtus would make for an interesting/awesome match indeed. Thanks for the welcome!

That's one spooky lil' fella! Well, I know what they say about the size of the fight
Looking forward to how she will do.

Not sure who might could help her finding the answers to her questions, though.
