I just read Second Coming again a week ago and it remains one of the most shocking X-Men stories in recent years, most of which concerned X-Men fan favorite and longtime member, Nightcrawler. So in light of the aftermath of Second Coming, I decided to dedicate my next piece on the swashbuckling teleporter himself, one who has been on my to-do list for the longest time now.

Nightcrawler has got to be one of te trickiest pieces I've done so far, and nothing was particularly easy at all. The pose I chose for him is the usual Nightcrawler pose that we've seen over and over again, but I still went with it because I wanted to do my own rendition of him in this iconic pose. I opted to go for his original Dave Cockrum-designed outfit instead of his most recent streamlined costume because it was just too iconic to pass up, and to me it remains to be one of the most well-designed comic costumes ever.

Kurt has been depicted in many ways since he first appeared, and I opted to go for a more handsome look instead of going the demonic route. I retained all his unique features from his blue fur skin, his long ears, curly hair, and of course his tail. I also made a little glowing effect for his eyes to add more character, and I drew him with a smile to show off that swashbuckling trait that we all loved about him.

The 'bamf effect' was very difficult to do, and I had to play around with a lot of different combinations to get the look I wanted. I managed to make it look like a cloud of purple ash and brimstone, while adding some elements to make it seem like Kurt was jumping from the cloud instead of just him being in front of it. In the end I'm very happy with how it turned out, and even if I wish I drew him with his trademark rapier, perhaps I can save that for a future X-Force version for him. I hope you guys like him! Bamf!
