Got an iPad 2 a couple of months ago, and I quickly got the Sketchbook Express app to satisfy my sketching needs. My first finished work was of Iron Man in his Extremis Armor, probably my favorite armor of his since its been used pretty much in most of the modern crossovers before the Siege storyline.

I know I'm no where near professional at all and there is lots of work to be done especially with colouring, rendering and shading (all of which I'm desperately trying to work on), but I think this was a job well done considering it was my first digital sketch, and I've got the drawing part of the process nailed down so far!

UPDATE (9/21/2012): As my oldest piece, Iron Man was long overdue for a necessary update, and the recent "Draw This Again" contest here on DA gave me the excuse to do so. While I didn't make it into the Top 50 finalists, I'm extremely proud with the update that I made with Iron Man, and it's amazing to see just how much one can grow in just a year.

First off I took apart his original body structure and drew him in a much more dynamic pose. I kept the head and the arms but modified pretty much everything else, and in turn I also chipped in a lot more details than my previous version. The helmet is massively updated as compared to the original, with all the lines and details here and there to make it look more like a suit of armor. The lights were modified as well to make them look more like they're coming from a light source as compared to before, and I love how it makes the piece look so much better than it used to be.

Perhaps the biggest change I did apart from the pose was the colors and shading, and I purposely wanted Iron man to look a lot shinier than my previous piece. I made the reds and golds a lot richer than before, and added more contrast to the darker parts of the shading to the lighter parts of the shine, and I was able to make the two blend in well together to make the suit look shinier than before. Finally, the Iron Man that my portfoilo deserves!
