Description
I wanted my next piece to be someone big and bulky, and since I'm in need of more villains in my gallery I went on to draw the most popular villain of the 90's, Venom himself! Obviously this is the Eddie Brock Venom, I grew up with this character so any other spin-off (Mac Gargan or Anti-Venom) isn't the Venom I know and love.

For Venom I wanted him to look like a mean killing-machine, and his over-the-top musculature is something I wanted to bring out in the big baddie. It took me a while to get the face right, but I like his twisted eyes and the long jaw, showing off his vile teeth and that horrid tongue. I took a while drawing the insignia on his chest, and it was important that everything was straight and lined up right, and I think I did a good job of that.

UPDATE: I had just purchased the new Marvel Select Venom and I really loved how they did the texture on him, so much so that I was inspired to go back on this piece and update it a little bit since it does look outdated compared to the rest of the lot. The first thing I changed is his pose, I altered the angle of his legs making them much more natural than it used to, and I also pointed his head up front. I had a little trouble with the face, and Venom really has such a tricky head to work on with the winding eyes and huge mouth and tongue, but I'm glad I was able to come up with something.

The texture on his suit was something I really worked hard on, especially since my earlier version had no texture on it at all. I combined various brush stroke techniques to get the style I wanted, then erased and smudged parts out to make it look natural on his physique. I'm really pleased with how this turned out, and I'm glad this piece is looking much better than it originally was. We are Venom!
