I know it's been a while since I last submitted a piece here on DA, and it's surprising that my last one was uploaded back in November. So to make up for my laziness I've been working on two pieces back to back, and the first one of the two to be uploaded is Captain America's nemesis himself, the Red Skull!

I've been meaning to do the Red Skull for quite some time now since he's one of Marvel's premier baddies, and I'm glad I was finally able to finish him now. I had some trouble picking out which costume of his to use, and just like I did with my piece on Loki, I decided to mash up a handful of his designs into one. You can see that the main layout of his trenchcoat is the design of his movie outfit, and I added some elements from his classic World War II get-up such as the Nazi armband, the army hat (which I really loved drawing haha), and the military designs on his collar. I also decided to go with an army green/charcoal grey/leatherette black colour palette to deviate from his movie design and make it closer to the comic books, and I really love how I was able to seam all those colors perfectly with the red piping on his coat, as well as the intricate details like those Hydra logos on his shoulder pads and his belt buckle.

His face was particularly tricky to do, and I wanted him to look different from my take on Ghost Rider's skull (since they're both skulls, doh). With this I decided to make his skull sharper shaped and I put emphasis on his eyes to give a really sinister look. I topped this all off with none other than the Cosmic Cube on his left hand (or the Tessaract for you Avengers movie people), and I loved how pretty it turned out.

The Red Skull has been one of Marvel's top tier villains since he first appeared many ages ago, and I'm glad this piece justifies that huge expectation on his part. I'll be uploading another piece by this week to make up for my month-long hiatus! Long live the Red Skull! Hail Hydra!
