I've been watching Avengers: EMH again lately and I just can't express how much I love that show. As a result, I decided to do my next piece on one of the major characters of the first season, Captain America's nemesis and leader of the Masters of Evil, Baron Zemo!

Honestly, my only exposure to Zemo has been the show, and I have yet to read any stories he's in (I still need to pick up "Under Siege" haha). Despite that, I know Baron Zemo in the show is Heinrich and not Helmut, even if the costume is clearly Helmut's and not Heinrich's, but I preferred to go for Helmut in doing my piece (it's confusing I know). I had to decide whether I should do his classic purple and yellow costume or his newer Thunderbolts look, and I eventually went for the latter because it looked way cooler even if the original one has that vintage silver age look to it.

This was a pretty simple piece and I wanted to put as much detail as I could in him. The rapier I drew for him is intricate and looks one for royalty, and the same goes for it's sheathe. As for the costume itself, I liked how I managed to blend in the pink and white parts of the outfit with a dark shade of violet instead of the standard black he's usually depicted in, and to me that gives a nod to his original costume which is predominantly purple and pink with yellow.

Baron Zemo has been a major pain for the Avengers and Captain America, and whether it's the original Heinrich Zemo or his son, Helmut, this villain is a major force to deal with. His depiction in the show elevated him into popularity not just for myself, but for others who have seen the show, and hopefully he becomes relevant again in today's comics especially since he hasn't been seen since the Marvel Now! initiative.
