Description This is a rough layout for Page 3 of a comic strip I am working on that is set in ancient Rome and is about the early life of Gaius Julius Caesar.

As I am currently at my parents' house for Christmas I don't have much chance to draw any new pictures, so I thought I'd upload this, which I have been working for the last few months.

The first few pages of the comic really just set the scene, so this is just offering background information to my main story - and any of you who know their history will see that I have extremely simplified these events, for the purposes of moving the storyline along quicker (these events alone would be enough to fill a comic book!).

And yes, he does look like Mithridates!

Ah, great! I'm sure this'll be a great comic! Luckily you did not draw Sulla with his ugly wig and deformed skin - that would be hard to draw andit is good to see how he has aged.

Is it Mithridates VI signing the treaty at the fourth drawing? He looks very pissed of - I love the expressions! I'm looking forward to more work of this kind.

Thanks. Really glad you like my comic.

That is indeed supposed to be Mithridates VI.

Even though it is historically attested that Sulla sufferred from skin ailments after his time in the East, I decided it would be far too annoying for me to try and draw it in every frame, so I left it out. Plus, as far as new readers are concened, it would make no sense either, unlike in McCullough's novels where we get all the backstory and emotional attachment to the character.

However, I did give him the ugly wig, although it's not that obvious on this page - it's probably more obvious in the following scenes. I thought the wig was an interesting concept on a character who was quite vain! Makes you wonder why Caesar didn't start wearing one when went bald!!!

Ceasar probably didn't because he thought it would be better to show his bold head then to wear an ugly wig like Sulla did. Caesar also was arrogant, but in another way.
