i think that i like this one better than the coloured version, because you see the design on the material better, and this one has the really cool reflection on the violin.

*Sigh* beautiful.. i love black and white. I thought the colour one was beautiful, but this just blows the other ou of the water,. I think it is the liquidity and shine of the viiolin that does it for me, almost looks like it's had a brilliantly done lifquid effect put on it in photoshop.

Not a smudge on it! The glossiness of the lacquered wood sets the violin off from the quilt. Nice shot!

It was test roll for the new lens, probably fuji superia 200. Awful colours I tell ya, or the lab did something horrible to it.

Oh, this is lovely... The level of detail is just wonderful, especially beside the fact that it's normally a rather simple subject. I think what really gets me is the reflection of light on the violin's surface - it's not just uniform and really grabs the viewers interest. It would be nice if the part of the violin farthest away was in focus as well, but I understand that it's hard with this kind of set-up and distance.
I adore the quilt you have behind the violin - it complements the subject very much. The small detail of the stiches and the flowery patterns on it accent the simplicity and larger details on the violin. The composition is very nice, too; having the bow run along outside the actual picture is pleasing, and the angle is very appealing.
The black and white works very nicely with this set-up. I think this would be really nice as a colour shot as well, but then again I just love the colours of the violin. It's nice to imagine for myself, anyway. ^^ I suppose there are downsides and upsides to black and white.
I remember your previous music shot a while back, all metallic and blue... It seems we can find a lot of shiny things in the music world.

I agree with you about the focus/DOF. I took about 8 shots of this in all kind of camera settings to test my new lens, but the other 7 shots are on the still unfinished roll, a better film, I will be able to post one of those in colour hopefully.
Use of the quilt was so obvious with the violin, because the design of the quilt and the sound of violin is very much similar to me in aesthetics, its a strange feel I get. They are both very dynamic in look and sound and are somewhat "meant to be" together.
