Aw, look at those merboys playing!
I was inspired to do a better background for this drawing thanks to the pointers of some helpful commenters. The original was okay, but its background wasn't nearly as good. Also I fixed some things about the face/body proportions. The original can be found in my scraps, but this is the version I want in my main gallery.
The re-written idea for this is that the Mer-Princes Mokuba and Noah are swimming in their home at sea, when Noah tries to convince Mokuba to go to the surface. Mokuba is hesitant. Seto has warned him about the dangers of humans, but Noah is curious. Since he can't convince Mokuba that way, he decides to exploit his ticklish navel until he gives in. It's a mean trick, but it works! Mokuba and Noah then swim up to the surface. There they spot a beautiful red haired girl walking along the shore. Her blond-haired older brother is with her. (It's Joey and Serenity) They spot the mer-boys, but assume they're human since they're half-submerged in the water. They wave to the boys, and they wave back.
Mokuba wonders what it would be like to be human, and dreams of having legs. Hmm... this could be the start of a wonderful adventure.
I haven't contributed to this AU for a long while. I have to say, I missed it. Since I do have one more sketch for it that I never coloured, maybe I'll submit that sometime this year.
It concerns how Noah and Serenity try to save Mokuba after he gets captured by Pegasus. Hope you like this, and the improved background!

yush i like the detailed corals
what i do, if u want to play around with it, is set a layer to like soft-light or overlay at like 50-75% opacity/transparency and then take white and put like, wavy streaks over the characters ( on the top of them, toward the surface, cuz it's light coming down from above ). if the surface is choppy there tends to be a lot of criss-crossing and x's. i used to set the brush shape the calligraphy brush, that slanted line, so it would make the lines wavy and change thickness and stuff

its hard to do but really its just some scribbles and criss-crossy lines set to soft-light or overlay or something if u wanna play around with that, like put some wiggly lines over them or over the ground. i think technically tho u prolly have to be close to the surface for this effect and they are prolly too deep down in this pic, but i used to have fun doing it on my stuff D:

I can tell you changed the gradient for the water, which is adding to the water refracting the light.
I don't know much about fish tail anatomy, but human anatomy is getting better for sure under terms of ratios.
I like how the reef frames Mer-Mokuba and Mer-Noah,adding to the composition of the "Under the Sea" theme.
The story sounds super cute!
The Yugioh cast a Merpeople sounds cool and interesting.
Is it written in a fic separate from the pic or is it a WIP?
Also, are Mokuba and Noah friends in the fic?

I drew the characters and background separate, then pasted them in. I made sure to leave a somewhat empty spot in the bg where they could fit in!
Glad you're interested in the story! So far I've just thrown around ideas on my various other mer-mokuba pics, but a story sounds neat! (Then I could just write it and not have to draw a pic for every scene! 
I might turn this idea into a fanfic later.
Mokuba and Noah do get along, though Seto doesn't entirely trust Noah yet.

Funny, I had the same idea for my third Mokie tickle pic.
I picked Tea for it because both characters have bonded in the show before, and I could see her tickling him because she thinks he's just so adorable! ^^ It's one of the pics I plan to draw this month.
