Description This was one of the many photos I took as a Marine Corps Photographer.

This was taken during a Change of Command Ceremony at the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, Belle Chasse, La. Pretty much it was 2 Generals passing the command over to one another.

Regardless I thought this was a really good photo

they fight for us.
we should support them,
they bring us freedom,
we bring them love!

Funny you should mention that... I've actually done a couple of recruiting posters while I was in.

Thanks again!

Indeed, there is something about driving your heels into the parade deck that gives you a sense of pride... I miss that.

Wow, great picture indeed! Don't know how i missed it. I bet you make promotion pictures look fun, lol.
Guess i'll be seeing a lot of that, eh?

Yea, that was my job... to make a really boring ceremony look like it was epic... thus is the life of a Combat Photographer you'll understand when you get nothing but request for promotion photos and ceremonies on the first of every month

ehehe I don't know much about photography. But I do like how the light shines on everything, and the uniformity of the picture, esp. the shadows? on the ground.
I like how you've brought the people in focus, and blurred the background.

Gives me the impression of a crisp/early morning.

Cool! You worked as a marine corps photographer! xD

Lol it's cool, they were in formation which is why they are all uniform the shadows are from the squad in front of the ones viewed. The focus and then the effect of blurring is a technique called depth of field used all over cinematography and photography

I was a Marine Photographer for 4.5 years, I learned alot while I was in

Yes it seems like you have learnt a lot! I keep forgetting how photography is more complex than it seems.

it's pretty much the same concept of any art (other than modern and abstract) it's composition and the placement of your subject. Only thing is you don't have to paint or draw it... just line it up nice in you view finder... and presto! a photo!

Very very nice. I always liked military ceremonies, but I suppose that's a side effect of being an army brat.

yea you didn't have to stand in them you just watched and enjoyed the company working them sucks unless you are a photographer, honestly.

Now that I think about it... my husband is going back in... so he might get his ceremony for retirement too (great military all over again)

Exactly, I never had to stand still for an eternity. Must be horribly boring. The only excitement is if someone locks their knees and then falls over . . .

Very nice photo. I like the depth of field, and the overall photo weighs well. Seems like a lot of ceremony to just say "your in charge now."
Our tax dollars at work!

Ha ha ha excatly... you wouldn't believe me if i told you that I had to take pictures of the wife and kids too... and they aren't even sacrificing their life either (then again when does a General sacrifice his life??? )

but your tax money did give me a adequate camera to take photos with ^_~ (too bad i couldn't take it with me when I left )

Ha, I knew they overstepped their authority!
I think there were a few generals that lost their lives in the civil war....I guess they learned from that to stay far away from where the actual bullets fly.
I would have let you take the camera.

HA HA HA yea right that camera kit i had cost over 3,000... there's no way I could claim combat loss on that and get away with it
