Description A guide, trying to help TOTAL BEGINNERS approach a comic.

Um, not sure how much this helps.

I really just kinda tried to summarise what I personally have to say to answer the question:

Hey, do you have any advice for starting a Nuzlocke Comic?

Most frequently, people ask about how much you should have with the plot and what kind of format they should use.

But with many people, I think the problem is more basic. They over-worry the how and they don't do the WHAT.
So the bottom part kind of turned out a motivational speech.

I don't consider myself any kind of authority, and everything I write is POSSIBLY wrong. Take what helps YOU and ignore the rest.

Not sure how much this is good. Please leave feedback. I know it's a wall of text, but, eeeh… I don't really know how to do tutorials.

As far as further tutorials go… If there's demand, I'll try and do similar guides. I don't think I'm any good with actual artistic advice (there's tons of better artists out there) but I do think I can do this theoretical work… question being whether it helps at all. So, yeah, please leave feedback as to whether you found it helpful or absolutely horrible. :T

Thanks for uploading this.
Lately I've hit upon what I think is a great idea for a Nuzlocke, but I want to do it in comic form because I have two other written Nuzlockes that can be tedious to develop. I figured a comic would be the best thing to do between writing chapters, as drawing instead of writing might help me clear my head. (I've always liked drawing too, but I'm far from good. I'm too accustomed to forming images with text and not with a pencil and paper... XD)

The point is, this tutorial has really helped me form an idea of what I should work on as a novice. I feel excited about venturing into this form of storytelling and this advice has only served as further inspiration.
Again, thanks!

This was a really helpful fountain of knowledge, I'll keep it in mind, or better... I'll fave it so I can re-read it as a reminder

I thank you for writing this, it's a really good encouragement for one who wants to introduce themselves, even if just for fun, to comic making

Your guide was really helpful and I had that "Ah ha" moment when you said to think of comics like a movie rather than a novel.

My question is: What's a nuzlocke comic? I've searched google but didn't really find anything. Is it just a comic about someone's pokemon OC and their adventure?

I also wanted to let you know that the past tense of "to pay" is "paid" not "payed" in the second paragraph after "Before you start..." "payed" is the past tense of "to pay" meaning "to slacken." If someone already told you this then I apologise.

Ahh, I know, probably was a typo ^^"

A nuzlocke is actually a playthrough of pokemonusing two rules to make it harder - people have started documenting their runs and created comics out of it, so there's a small community round that.

WynterPhoenyx In reply to Wasserbienchen [2012-05-22 05:17:15 +0000 UTC]

Oooooh I see. What are those two rules?

Wasserbienchen In reply to WynterPhoenyx [2012-05-22 05:22:17 +0000 UTC]

1. If a pokemon faints, it's considered dead and can't be used again.
2. You may only catch the first pokemon in each area.

Ok thanks for the info. Also, I've started reading your comics and I think they're really good. Even though I've only gotten up to White finishing her conversation with Lenora, I think the world and the characters have been fleshed out very well.

after i started reading your black and white nuzlocke i got very inspired to do comics myself :3
comics is something that i've always liked throughout my life, but... even though i've tried several times, i've never really found it fun, or rewarding to do myself. one point may be that back then, when i did my first few comic pages and even a 30 page one, i generally sucked at drawing, and that i spent way too much on small details.
recently i did a 2 page comic for a school project. even now things take time for me. but i noticed a great jump in art and style. i managed perspective, masses of people, and even a small city.
of course, there's several, hundreds things i would love to become better at, but as you said, i gotta start doing comics again, right~?

Noticed a typo ~
In the second paragraph of the disclaimers, you typed "Ecperience" instead of "Experience"

Other than that, lovely, Really inspired me to get off my "lazy arse" and get workin on a nuzlocke of my own.

I found this to be encouraging, knew some things, learned some things. I'm waiting till I have enough pages to post my comic. I have no idea how to do long pages so i'll have to do a bunch of short pages. Anyway thanks, I appreciate this.

This is absolutely perfect. It clarified several questions in my mind. I like how you took a more theoretical approach...you're really good at making guides, so I certainly hope that you'll make more in the future if there's a demand for them, but I completely understand if you don't.

mmm, this is a very good tutorial filled with excellent advice, but at many parts i felt as if it would be better if i closed the tab because there was a lot of repetition in your words and what also appeared to be sidetracking at points. maybe splitting this up into two tutorials would have made it a little easier to read? in any case i wouldn't mind seeing other tutorials from you! i've been thinking lately about doing a webcomic, and i've been planning it for about a few months now, and i've been looking around to see if there's anything i'm doing wrong. this was helpful c:

This is a great guide, seriously. What i think it's the most important point it's the consistency, i'm tired to see brutal changes on nuzlockes. I'm always trying to keep the same atmosphere since the beginning, so basically if i choosed to do a comedy comic i must keep it.
I think people don't think about consistency too much and when starts to have deaths they don't know how to deal with it. You can put some drama without changing drastically your style (and vice-versa)

There are some nice points. I especially should take the part about "don't try and live up to standards you cannot reach" to heart... And I should think the story more through before I start anything. I usually don't get past the first chapter, before I have a new idea how the story could get more amazing and I start all over again.

You know what, that's what I do. o3o I have a bunch of stories planned out includnig a full plot for a written Nuzlocke, and I've had it for months now, but I don't start it because I'm worried stuff will go wrong, or that I'll write three chapters and then abandon it. I gotta get off my butt and start it XD
