Description Finally got round to making one of the larger models. Didn't take too long, bout 8 hours to model as I already had most of the parts saved from previous models. Again modelled in 3DS Max and took the usual 30 - 40 minutes to render.

Polygon count: 20920

Comments please.

Would like to dedicate this piece to Luke Pope. He is my tutor, my inspiration, and my best friend. Everything i know about 3D, came from him, and it is because of him I won the award. Thanks mate

Allright.
I've decided to make you my latest hero.
Congratulations! Bahahaha.

No, seriously, how long have you been with 3Ds. I can't really compare, since I just started a couple weeks ago, but... While looking for a model of spaceship to emulate, I found your masterpiece.
I love _every_ single spot of it, and I'm heading to see if there's any other view of it around your gallery.

I wanna be like you when I grow up! Hahahaha

Have you seen.... there is a new star wars game for the computer. It's about the first movies. And the cool thing is that it is all done with LEGOS! Did you help make it?

On the X-Wing, the shooters (on the wings) do not appear to be as dark a colour as they are in real life. That is my only critisism of what is one of the best models I have ever seen.

I'm confused. I thought it was a picture of a Lego xwing but now you say it was done in 3DS Max? Forgive me if I come off as stupid, for my head isn't working as well as I'd like it to be right now.

webwizardking In reply to FlamingMushroom [2006-08-28 19:04:32 +0000 UTC]

hahaha yes it had been build from scratch, block by block in a 3d world lol

This is awesome; no doubts about it. I think Sodano hit something though -- the background might've been a different color.

Ya know, I think it would be both awesome -and- humorous if you were to render/add a "space" background... as if a lego X-Wing is in a real space dogfight... ya know? But if something like that were to be done, it might be important to make sure that absolutely nothing in the background took any attention away from your perfectly-rendered piece.

Perhaps that was the reason you rendered it with the green/yellow background?

webwizardking In reply to deviant-salacity [2006-08-28 19:02:06 +0000 UTC]

Actualy i never thought of having it with a space background, i shall definately try it so thanks for the idea. I guess the only reason i had it with a green floor was because at the time i was just thinking bout the best way to display it, and I also wanted to keep in tune with the previous renders i had done lol

Heh, one of my mates has recently gone out of his way to but all the Lego Star Wars merchandise, and is planning on rendering a few in 3D Max...
Funnilly enough, this is one of very few he doesn't have yet!
It'll be interesting to see him try the Death Star.... it's big.
Really big.
Good job on this, looks fantastic!

Just prod him a few times and tell him to get on with the Death Star, cos I'd like to see it done too!

Hey thats cool, It's really got that lego looking feel to it. That probably ate up alot of computer processor resources if that took 30-40 minuites to complete the render.

yeah i've tried making super detailed stuff myself and even with 512 DDR RAM in my laptop it still takes forever nowadays if you need a render done fast your computers gotta have like well over 1gig of ram or more
