Description
This assignment for my Figure Illustration course was to base a character on an archetype and I chose to portray a "wanderer" - which I think of as a lone, homeless traveler, making his way through the world in search of something (truth, happiness, enlightenment, etc.), with just the clothes on his back and few belongings, plus a loyal dog for company.

I thought it would be interesting to base my character on the Tibetan nomads. It's a unique, colourful culture with a barren, but stunning environment (from what images I've found). Tibetans carry "prayer beads" and adorn outdoor shrines with lines of "prayer flags" - I've included these elements to compliment the idea of a religious journey. The dog is a Tibetan Mastiff - a gorgeous, massive breed! What I've drawn looks a bit more like an obese Golden Retriever, haha...

I had been afraid the composition was too busy, but my instructor seemed to appreciate the focus of all the angles. So, I'm happy with most of this piece, despite rushing to finish it in little more than a night. Using Paint Tool SAI, I tried to digitally draw in a way more similar to how I'd use a pencil, and I'm happy with how that turned as well! ^__^
