Description
[This is an analysis of a character from my story Project: Gaia. Each Planetess is shown in their underwear, however they normally wear clothing of some kind. The following is a short story featuring a random sequence in this character's life.]

“Scientists have discovered a small body of water located just below the surface of Mars” read the caption of the article in Gaia’s feed.

It drew her attention immediately: she was always interested when humans talked about her friends. She subscribed to several human websites that periodically released little articles related to science which would pop up on her phone from time to time. And at night Gaia would read them in bed while Selena lay sleeping on the pillow next to her.

Though on this particular night, she didn’t get a chance to read the article. Her attention was drawn to a tapping at the window. A familiar face could be seen behind it; waving to Gaia in an attempt to get her attention. Gaia quickly arose from her Bed in an effort to help the person in, but by the time that she was on her feet, the window was already open and her friend was straddling the sill.

“Sup, Mother Nature. Missed me?” Her friend said with a smile as she entered the room.

“Mars, what are you doing here this late? Why didn’t you tell me you would come?” Gaia said as she crossed her arms. Despite her pouting, she knew that this wasn’t unusual for Mars: she went wherever she wanted to go at whatever time. And she dressed however she felt: this time she wore a short leather jacket to cover up her dusty, reddish brown atmosphere and wore a bright blue hairband to keep her long, flowing neon crimson hair in check. As she approached Gaia, she reached into the pocket of her incredibly short jeans and began pulling out another article of clothing.

“I came to show you this real quick. Here: take a sniff!” Mars said as she took the piece of cloth and pressed it against Gaia’s face. She immediately pushed Mars away, reeling back from the sudden assault: though the piece of cloth was still on her face. A sharp smell of sulfur filled her nostrils along with a few other scents she couldn’t quite identify. Gaia quickly removed the cloth from her face and held it up so that she could better see it.

“P...p-panties?!” Gaia sputtered, dumbstruck with this sudden realization.

“Yep. Specifically Venus’s panties. Snatched’ them out of her locker at school this morning while she was practicing her cheerleading routines. Gonna’ sell these to one of her ‘admirers’ as soon as I can. Bet it’ll sell for a good amount.” Mars said as she swiped the pair from Gaia’s hand.

Learning this didn’t help Gaia’s disgust, but she could tell Mars wasn’t bluffing. Venus’s atmosphere did had a lot of sulfur in it. Though she was very volatile, and would tear Mars to shreds if she ever found out.

Mars walked over and leaned against the wall. “Anyway, I just thought you might be interested in what Venus’s panties smelled like.” She said.

“Uh...why would I?” Gaia asked as she sat down on the bed.

Mars shrugged. “I dunno. It just occured to me that maybe you did. Anyway, enough about that prissy little whiner. Let’s talk about something far more interesting. How are your humans?” Mars asked, eyeing the landmass on Gaia’s breast.

“Oh! They’re...well, good...I think. They just discovered that there’s a small body of water beneath your surface.” Gaia said with a friendly grin.

Mars returned the look with a confused grimace. “What’s water?” She asked.

Gaia glanced down at her arm, noting the deep blue that surrounded each of the smaller landmasses. Almost 70% of her surface was covered in the stuff and yet there was so little of it actually in her Solar System.

“Uuhh...it’s kinda gooey but...it flows more easily than that. And when it’s really hot it turns into a gas but when it’s really cold it turns into a solid.” Gaia explained.

“So like magma? Don’t we all have that stuff under all of our surfaces?” She asked, raising an eyebrow quizzically.

Gaia shook her head. “No, no, it’s different from that. It’s the reason why humans can live on me: I have lots of water. That’s what all this blue stuff is. And you apparently have a little bit of water on you. That means that maybe some day, humans can live on you too!” she explained.

Mars still wasn’t fully convinced. “So they need the stuff to live? Why can’t they live off of magma? After all, that’s what’s keeping us planetesses alive. It flows in our veins after all. At least us Terrestrial planets.” she pointed out.

The earth shrugged. “That’s just how they’re made, I guess. Apparently humans are mostly water. So I guess they need more water so that they won’t dry up. And magma is really warm so that’ll make them dry up faster. Then again, I wonder what’s keeping them from just melting into a puddle. Maybe all of this water on me is just the collective bodies of humans who couldn’t stay together…” Gaia murmured, staring up at the ceiling as she tried to ponder this unusual concept.

The red planet only snorted. “Humans are weird…” she muttered quietly to herself.

She then gently sniffed at the pair of her friend’s underwear in her hands, wondering if they would be worth more if they were somehow smellier.
