Description
Part One: [link]Part Deux of my tutorial. Hope this helps some.
Just in case you don't appreciate the amount of time and effort I put in to picking out colors, I added an enormous color pallet. I'm not sure if it'll help ANYONE but, I added it anyway.

I have one questions, after reading thru all of this and I have never used painter I'm a photoshop girl, do you more then one layer at any point in the painting of the body. I'm assuming you use at lest a diffrent layer for the mane and tail but is it normal to use one layer on the body? And Thanks again for making this, it will help digital painting nubs like me a lot.

no, the whole body (including eyes and hooves) are done on one layer. I make a separate layer on top of that for the mane and tail, and one on the very top for the lineart.

wow impressive that you only use one layer for all of that shading and detail work. But I see how it works for you, maybe I will sum up the courage to give it a go. Thanks.

My comment to both parts:
This makes me appreciate digital art THAT much more!
I've been using just one reference for all of my 2D drawings, but... wow... that's all I can say.
I will try to use this!!
Oh... do you have a tablet or do you just use a mouse?

I have a wacom Bamboo Fun Tablet. I forget how big it is. And yes, a lot of refs are really nice to have. ^^

I'm trying to convince my parents about a tablet. That or something else...
Unfortunately, the lack of broadband is stopping my mom from really considering it.
So you could use your color ref... but use a light-colored horse to get the detail? Is that kinda what you do?

well, in the pic I used for my pose, the back end didn't show much muscle, so I found a pic of a horse in a similar pose and copied the muscle tone. I do that sometimes. ^^

I may have just looked over it, but how long did Genie take you to draw and finish?
