I have been so excited for this piece forever XD
Not the art part lmao bc I'm really struggling to like my style atm but it's fine bc we're working on it XD
A capture image!! I've always had an image in mind of how Whiteglass names all the horses they find and track etc and it went something like this x3
Think of it like ... a little introduction almost? Of my whole entire bachelor herd... minus Djinn for now! lmaoo
Hayate's head perked up, ears pricking forwards to the three humans walking towards his fenced meadow. He cocked his head, curiously looking a the items held in their hands. He looked around to the other two stallions in his small meadow, they didn't seem bothered by this at all. He huffed slightly, he wanted some answers but he couldn't seem to find any. Days had past now, a good few days, maybe a week or more? Hayate was confused. He had never been in this place for so long, he thought he'd be in for a few days and then let out again. But nope, that's not what happened this time. After the evening he was brought in, he was held in his box for a few days, fully fed and watered but not let out in the pastures like he normally was.
After a few days had past he was let out to the meadows, but not with the stallions he was brought in with, which was strange again ... but still, what could Hayate do? The other stallions were put out around him, they mostly seemed a little shaken, they would speak quietly to each other for the most part. He tried speaking to a few of them again, but nothing. He continued looking at the humans now, who stood by the fence, some flat item in their hands watching all of the stallions. "Hey kid! Come on over and graze, stop your worryin'!" The older stallion behind him called. Hayate gulped looking around to him before back at the humans. He watched the people for a few more minutes before trotting over to the other two stallions. "What do you think they're doing over there? Have they done this to you before?" Hayate asked. Roger, the older stallion, shrugged, "Don't know kid, you know we've been here pretty much as long as you have." Hayate sighed. He had gotten nowhere still.

"Come on guys this way!" Casey called to the two volunteer's behind her, "We're already a whole WEEK late on this!" "Yeah, yeah... we know, it's all you've talked about today." Zayne chuckled. "Yeah why is that Casey? You guys were super on top of this when I rang you last week?" Alex asked. Casey sighed making an exasperated face, "A lot of the stallions came in more injured than we thought and a few of them were quite... aggressive and we had to separate them a certain way... it was chaos! And we were super under staffed too. Thank God you're back again for a while Alex! We were swamped." Alex raised her brows, "Yikes. That sucks." "Yeah it does. But it's fine! We're getting to this now." Casey sighed, a little more optimistically this time.
The three volunteers reached the small fields where they had put the stallions to graze. "Here they are! Clipboards ready?" Casey announced, huge smile on her face. Zayne nodded excitedly making Alex laugh as she turned to Casey, "Definitely! Can you talk me through this again though?" "Sure!" Casey pointed down to the clipboard, "So the rundown is, we check their profiles on our database of mustangs, if they aren't already on our system then we name them and get their details to put into the database. If we recognise them we input their description and see if we can find them in the DB, if not though, again, we just name them and put them in ourselves." She took a breath and continued, "Now, with all of them we want to describe any injuries and their basic status we find them in, including their herd members and the like."
Zayne and Alex listened attentively, enthusiasms showing on their features. "Okay, I think that's everything, you guys get all that?" Casey asked. Both volunteers nodded. "Great! Let's get to work then."
The trio walked to the fence of the first meadow they came to, Casey smiled. "We'll start here! Cause' we've seen these guys before." Casey pointed to two of the stallions in the first meadow, a leopard appaloosa and a pearl sabino. Casey opened the database on the Ipad she was holding and typed something in fast. "Yep! Got em'!" She spun around and showed the two tabs of horses to the other two volunteers. "Oh cute! They've both been in a few times before..." Alex mentioned, swiping through them both. "Yep! So with these two, we just take in who they were found with, any injuries and the like. Can you guys do one each?" "Sure!" Zayne and Alex said in unison. "I'll take the leopard guy, if you want to get the other?" Alex said to Zayne who nodded in response. Both of the volunteers started jotting down the details, their form, weight, injuries and the like. "Huh, why does my guy have two names? Is that normal?" Alex asked, pointing to the Leopard appy. Casey squinted and looked on her ipad again, "Oh yeah! This guy! Okay so he's officially dubbed 'Flame', so list him as that, but there's a couple people who have nicknamed him Candycane! Haha.. it stuck well so we actually listed it on the database too." The volunteers chuckled. "Is that because of the colouring?" Alex asked. Casey laughed, "Yeah, for sure! Look at those pretty colours!"
They continued jotting down their information, Casey let Alex know that Candycane was found with the mountain herd they brought in while Captain was found with the new boy in their field. "It's good to see Cap back again with some company." Zayne smiled. "Captain... why Captain?" Alex asked, curious of most of the horses since she wasn't often at the reserve. "He gave off the aura of a Captain apparently... he's kinda a joker too, gets on with almost every bachelor. Almost." Casey said, pointing towards the brown pearl. Alex nodded, flipping her page over to the next after she had finished Flame's file. "Alright so the overo stallion ... he's new?" Alex asked. "Sure is! So brainstorm a name and we'll keep it on file!" Casey said, watching Alex's eyes light up. "Hmmm... any ideas Zayne?" "Yes! I have so many." Zayne said enthusiastically, making the girls giggle. "Okay, so I thought he kinda reminded me of snow right? Like Frosty or Icicle or, uh, maybe Avalanche?" "That's not a bad idea actually! He does give me winter vibes ... what about Blizzard? Or just Winter!" Alex added. The two discussed energetically which name suited him best while Casey watched in amusement. After a few minutes, the pair had seemed to decide. "Well, what is it?" Casey asked smiling. The pair in front of her looked at each other before announcing their name proudly, "Winter." "Perfect! Winter it is then. Did you get all his details down?" The pair both nodded. "Great! Let's move on."
In the next field the went to there were three more horses, two appaloosa's and a tobiano. Casey hurried over to the fence excitedly, "Now, this batch! This little group is so interesting!" Alex and Zayne gathered around to listen. "So, we've only had one of these guys in before, the Varnish dude, we call him Knight. Knight has been around the valley for years! Bit of a trouble maker for his first few years as a bachelor to be honest... We actually had to bring him in for his own safety a couple times, but now? He's a softie. He met that leopard pintaloosa a few years back now, they started their own bachelor herd, it failed somehow, we're not fully sure of how and those two travelled alone for a while. I can't believe they ended up started a new bachelor herd!" Alex and Zayne smiled at Casey's excitement while telling the story of the bachelors. "Wait, if those two have been travelling for years, then what about the small one? The roan guy." Zayne asked, pointing to the smallest bachelor. "That little guy is just barely a stallion. He's actually a foal from one of the oldest mustangs in the valley! Foal of the lead mare too, quite the lineage on that guy. There's a few of these types in this batch of boys though!"
The trio got to inputting the details on the clipboard for all three stallions now. Knight already had a profile to Casey worked on that one digitally. Zayne took the roan tobiano's file and Alex took the pintaloosa's. Neither had a name in the system, other than Knight of course, so there was another round of names to get through. Eventually, after some discussion between the three, Alex settled on Pongo for the pintaloosa stallion, for obvious reasons she stated, while Zayne decided on Bubbles for the roan tobiano, due to his colouring and energy he had through the whole time he had been in. "Them boys done?" Casey asked. The pair nodded. "Oh wait! Knight came in with a few other injuries didn't he?" Alex asked, "Did we get those?" "Oh! Good catch. He had some deep gashes, they've mostly healed now. Did you get Bubbles injuries? He came in with a few cuts too, nothing major though." Casey added, looking to Zayne at the end. Zayne nodded, swirling his pen, "Got it all."
Again, the three volunteers moved on. "Alright! Another interesting trio, one that we were shocked by anyways." Casey announced heading towards the field. Three roans were in this field, two pretty big stallions and a much leaner one next to the other two. "I didn't recognise him on the day we got these boys, everything was manic! But this is The Wolf." "The Wolf?" Alex said, confused. "Or just Wolf mostly, a fitting name too." Casey chuckled. Zayne looked on excitedly to the stallions in the field, "This guy is a legend!" He began excitedly, "He derived from a certain kind of hardy mountain mustangs. No wonder we found him in the mountains... I can't believe he's back in the valley." "Back in the valley? I'm sorry what? Can someone please explain this to me?" Alex laughed, a little lost at everything. "Okok, this guy, he's pretty old now. He's had herds back in the day and he was pretty ruthless. We have a lot of his history archived on the database, you NEED to read it. He disappeared from the valley for a while, we thought he might of been taken forever but nope, here he is. He's smart too, so don't let him fool you. He's never really got on with many stallions, I'm surprised he's in a bachelor herd now..." Zayne noted, reaching over Casey to look up Wolf's file in the database.
After reading through a few of Wolf's data stuff, the volunteers looked back up to the horses. "So ... what about the other two?" Alex asked, "Have they always travelled with him?" Casey typed a few things into the ipad and scrunched up her nose a little, "Hmm... no, I don't think so. Nope, nothing comes up on the database for them. We've seen the varnish guy around a little but not too much. Him and the bigger roan look relatively young, but we have the dentist in tomorrow so we'll see if he can work it out!" "So they both need profiles?" Zayne asked. Casey nodded, making Zayne do a small fist-pump. Casey laughed, "This is most excited you've been for paperwork, Zayne." Zayne shrugged, "It's exciting."
They filled out the forms quickly, Zayne taking the lean roan and Alex taking the much bigger roan while Casey updated Wolf's current data. Alex tilted her head at the large roan mustang whose file she was working on, "So uh... this guy definitely isn't a full mustang right? Do we know his parents?" Casey thought for a moment while she looked on at the stallion, "You know, you're probably right. He's a bit ... big. I'm not sure on his parents though we'll have to look into it. This is the first time I'm seeing this guy anyways." It only took a few more minutes to fill out their forms, as all these stallions came in relatively healthy, and they were done. Alex nudged Zayne slightly, "I have an idea, for the names." "Oh really? Let's have it then." Zayne smirked. "Okay so if he's called the Wolf and he sort of gets on with these other two, I was thinking of playing off those sorts of animal names, right? So for your lean guy, Fox and for my guy ... Hound?" Alex explained. Zayne nodded, his smile widening, "You know what... I think they actually sound pretty good." Alex laughed, "Great! And don't sound so shocked!"
They moved on to two larger fields now, there were much more stallions in these two fields than the rest. Granted, they had mostly spaced out and weren't really interacting all that much with each other. In the first field there was a spotted brumby stallion standing with two younger mustangs. He looked pretty protective over the boys and hadn't let the stranger stallion all that close. That left the lone smokey black stallion standing in the corner alone, although he hadn't moved much from his spot. His head always shot up whenever someone brought a horse out of the quarantine barn... strange. Maybe he was waiting on someone?
In the next field over there were six stallions. Again, a group of three grazed together, a mismarked appy, a dun tobiano and a varnish roan splash stallion. An amber champagne appaloosa would sometimes graze with the trio, but he normally liked to graze alone. It seemed the tobiano liked to graze with him aside from the the other two. The dunalino tobiano had not interacted with any of the stallions since being brought in, WGR explained that they had tried to integrate him with the docile stallions, but still, nothing. And finally, the odd looking sooty blanket appaloosa seemed to like pestering all the stallions in there. He ran from each, nipping some to get a reaction. He was definitely the cockiest of them all.
"So we only have one out of these two who have been in before and that is ... Mocha! There he is, the amber appaloosa." Casey announced pointing to the stallion with her pen. "So that means that the rest all need names, and all their details taken ... have fun!" She gave Alex and Zayne a wink as she got to work updating Mocha's file. Zayne and Alex had a field day with new names for the horses. Some had been in longer than others, so Zayne had already some ideas. They spent a good couple of minutes discussing and deciding while Casey had completely finished Mocha's updates. "Alright, have you guys decided on them all yet?" Casey laughed. Alex and Zayne looked to each other, Zayne shrugged and Alex sighed, "We think so. Kinda." "What does that mean?" Casey giggled. "It means we've more or less decided. But some are up for debate." Zayne explained. Casey nodded, trying to hold in her laugh again, "I'm glad you guys have taken this so seriously, but anyways, tell me them."
"Alright, well we'll start with the brumby guy cause he was the easiest." Zayne explained, "We decided on Aussie for him, suiting right?" "Very creative." Casey commented, "And the two young ones with him? The roan appy first, excellent lineage on that guy. One of the heirs you could say. An Azazel colt, mother is Maple, his lead. Amazing that we brought him in so early after ... well you know." Alex nodded at Casey's explaination, "Yeah exactly. So we actually thought 'Heir' would suit that guy, fitting since he's such big boots to fill." "Nice. Simple but I like that one!" Casey said smiling. "The next guy also has a pretty well known dad, we wanted him to have a cool name and also I've wanted to give one of them a harry potter name forever! So we call him Padfoot." Zayne said proudly. Casey laughed, "Okay, I can get behind that. And the lone guy?" "Darko." Alex said quickly, "We were undecided but I've decided that it suits him." "Oh really? " Zayne said raising a brow, "I thought my 'Loner' suggestion was perfect." "That's a mean name, first of all, and I think you're wrong about him. But we'll see. His name is Darko." Alex said directing the last part at Casey. "Alrighty. And the bigger field?"
"So since Mocha is all updated in this, it's just the other five you gave the names too right?" Casey stated, looking to her files. "Yep." Zayne began, looking off at the sooty dunalino in the distance, "That guy, he's always tried to steal mares from other stallions for as long as we've watched him right?" Casey nodded in response. "Yep, so, I thought Swiper would be good from him." Zayne said with a smile, Alex laughed, "It's a little silly but I can agree it's fitting." "And the appaloosa who bothers them all; we thought he'd suit Aladdin. He's the half arabian right?" Zayne said again. "Nice, I like that one actually." Casey said, "Also son of that brute who use to live in the forest. Crazy stallion that was..." "That actually brings us onto our next stallion!" Alex said excitedly, "This tobiano, you said he was adopted into that forest stallion's herd right? Which was crazy at the time, I remember you guys being really worried about the colt because the stallion had just ... well he had just killed another foal. So we thought giving him a name that resembles his history would be good, like Miracle or ... Chance maybe?" Casey nodded enthusiastically, "You're right, that was a crazy time... Chance is actually pretty nice." "Yeah, I like Chance too. Let's go with chance." Zayne added in agreement. "Chance it is then! Perfect." They all looked on to see who to pick out next, finally Casey pointed to the mismarked appaloosa, "Him! What ideas did you guys have?" "All I have written for him is handsome. Nothing else. He shall be Handsome." Alex stated, gazing to the stallion. "No way! That's far to basic. I wanted something cool like, Obi Wan or Maul or something." Zayne protested. Casey chuckled and face-palmed slightly, "I told you going into this we like to keep the names somewhat basic and identifiable. Not all nerd names." "Uh rude, a star wars name can be basic ... Wait! What about Jedi? Jedi would be a sick name!" Zayne added hastily. Casey looked to Alex for help, "To be fair, I could get behind Jedi. But he will always be nicknamed Handsome to me." Alex stated. Casey sighed while Zayne punched the air, "Yes! Two 'nerd' names already, oh yeah." Casey rolled her eyes but still had to hold back a smile, "Okay okay, let's move on now. Whose next?" "Uhh, last one I think, which is ... The splash varnish roan guy." Alex stated. "Oh Alex, you had a good one for him right?" "I had Stormcloud for him, he kinda reminds me of one, aha." Alex said a little embarrassed. "Hey, that is a good one. Nice!" Casey said, making a note in her own files.
Finally, the trio moved onto the final field. It was a much smaller one, hidden away from most of the others by trees and the like. This secluded field had the final two stallions brought in with the rest. "We brought these two here because the black stallion was pretty hostile with the others, except for this one stallion. These two were practically inseparable." Casey said, leading the pair behind her to the smaller field. "What stallions? I don't see any horses in here?" Alex said, very confused. "Neither do- oh no wait... there they are!" Zayne said somewhat quietly. Alex made a face, obviously not seeing the horses that the others were. Zayne pulled her closer to him and pointed to the top right corner of the field, "Behind the shrubs, under the big tree, see?" "Oh yeah! I see them now ... wow." Alex said in awe, doing her best to keep her eyes on them. "Now, neither of these two have been in with us before, however, we know of them if you know what I mean. They both have a pretty impressive lineage with stallions known to us." Casey explained, flicking through some files on the database again. "Wait, the Friesian was born in the valley? You're kidding right?" Alex exclaimed, Zayne also seemed equally as confused. Casey laughed, "Oh that's not a friesian, although his mother was! His father was Azazel too, so half brother to Heir, who you guys named earlier." "Oh wow, they look nothing alike..." Alex breathed.
They were able to take down the details and current status of the two horses as much as possible both came in relatively healthy, although the tovero sabino stallion came in with the chills. He was able to be treated lightly for that while in his box and should make a full recovery. "Alright! Good job on those files, you guys are really getting the hang of this." Casey praised, patting her two volunteers on the back, "Now, the Friesian sort of is well known around these parts. People have been calling him Dragon, while he's never been caught by us, that's sort of what we call him too. Although he got popular around the Game of Thrones time and people began dubbing him Drogon too hahah! So either way I think we should keep those names huh?" "Definitely!" Alex answered quickly, a game of thrones fan herself. "How come you two are allowed to have nerd names?" Zayne groaned rolling his eyes. "Oh shush, he's been dubbed that for ages!" Casey laughed. "We need something equally as fitting for the other guy... look at that luscious mane! He's like a prince..." Alex commented, making Zayne scoff, "Why not just call him Prince then?" "No way! Way too basic! It needs a little more pizzaz for such a pretty boy." She protested. "Prince Charming then?" Zayne added, jokingly. Both girls just turned to look at him with a light in their eyes. "Wait no. I was kidding you aren't going to go with that right?" Zayne protested back. Both girls just laughed and wrote something down in their files. Zayne rubbed his forehead slightly, "You're going with Prince Charming then huh?" "Yup." Both girls said in unison. It seemed that was that then.
The trio took a few last notes, double checking everything was in order before deciding they had it all sorted for the time being. "Okay, I think that's everything. Do you guys have everything down?" Casey asked the other volunteers. "Yep!" "All good here." They both answered. "Great! Let's get back to base and started updating these new profiles! I have two other files that we updated the other day, Thomas and Caterpillar, but they're steal healing so they aren't out yet. Anyways lets get going, we have a lot to get through..." The trio chuckled and began to head back off into the barns. Their work for the day had just about finished.
