Thanks very much---I used a main and a fill at 45 degrees--continuous lighting so I could check the image while shooting.

That's an awesome effect with the rough and the refined. Excellent shot, though you didn't use a macro! ^_^

Thank you! I don't have a macro, although I would love to have that feature on a lens---I did get close-up filters for Christmas, but I haven't used them yet! That should help.

I can bet! My Grandpa has a mascro for his Cannon... x-X I haven't been able to use it so I have no experience really in close ups.

I hope you get a chance to use it---macro is fun and rewarding when the focus is just right!

*nod nod* One day I'm going to at least get a crappy digital camera and then I will be able to take NEW pictures! XD not just my pictures from 1999

don't get a crappy digital camera!!! You will just want a better one---save for one you really want, and remember that the longer it takes, the more the prices go down------on the other hand, don't wait too long because you will miss out on all the fun----so just buy the best you can afford!

XD Of course, by crappy, I mean at least 3.0 megapixels! I'll have to look around and see what I like. Mmmm....... Digital camera with lithium ion batteries... *_*

Thanks--I was doing this work with a non-macro lens--but I got close-up filters for Christmas, so it will be fun to play with those!

Thanks--I think I could have arranged it jewellry better, but I would have needed glue or something sticky--the earrings kept falling off!

Beautiful! (My mother's favourite stone) You mentioned using a polarizlar. Did you use it in this shot? I'm guessing not by the glints in the gold, but I think if you in fact didn't, that would have been the way to go--the glints are beautiful, and in fact I'd love to see more of them! What about a start filter on a diamond....mmmm.... I mean, I know we're all rich enough to gave diamonds this size, and all... Maybe it'd be cheaper to invest in a macro lens?
Gorgeous shot, and unique cropping.

Good ideas! I didn't use a polarizer here, but I should try it---and a star filter might be interesting as well--check out the next photo I submit--I didn't use any filters on this one either, but I still like the effect!
