Description With recent popularity of Thai voodoo dolls, I decided to make something in the same vein, but with a twist.

This giraffe was wound from a continuous thread of yarn. Plastic beads for eyes, and an embroidery loop for a charm option.

I use some sturdy yarn (if I can find it) and wind it up on itself until I get the shape I want.

I've seen these sting dolls before and have them myself, but actually making a giraffe...

you are one talented person.

Thanks for looking! Nice tutorial you have, I went ahead and forwarded it to a friend of mine whose been curious about the process.

The giraffe came about out of curiosity. I was thinking of what to make after an octopus, then I saw a plushie of a giraffe and thought, it could be plausible....

I've been wondering what to try next, actually...

Oh thank you very much! Hope your friend doesn't find it complicated.

I haven't been very succesful of finding the right string for making these things, I looked on a site and it said "cotton hemp string"...I need to look for at a craft store. I want to make it like the real thing.

I never tried to go beyond the human shaped figure, but I am really amazed that you went and made animals.

Can't wait to see what's next

Haha, thanks

I know what you mean about the string. I'm sure you could find it at a craft store. Though I think you'll get satisfactory results with non-fuzzy yarn. I am curious to try cotton or hemp, too since I think it'll give the dolls a sturdier feel. But so far, yarn's been working fine

Going through some of the comments on your dA, I can't believe ppl have been paying $10 a doll! Maybe I should rethink my prices on Etsy, lol.....

I payed $11 for my cute sheep string doll at the mall.

Online they charge you $9....but that's without the shipping+handling... same price sorta.

I actually bought some of these dolls from a gachapon machine (six bc I went crazy) I actually want to cut one up to see how they exactly make it....but I can't. I love them too much. I might just have to go to Johann's or something and ask a person who works there for the type of string, I'll let you know if I find anything.

Aww, I wouldn't cut them up. I can guarantee you they're made the same way. Except the eyes are sewn in rather than glued (which I noticed on your tutorial).

But haha, that's how I found out about them (I don't have any malls here that carry them)! I saw them in a gacha machine and got two. I gave the other one to my cousin who seemed to like it (though I SO wanted to keep it), but by now it got unraveled at the head from pulling it in and out of pockets.

Agh yes, one of mine started unraveling from the legs.

I found out about them out of curiousity, I saw one hanging off of some kid's backpack at school....and went "I want one"

Found the gacha the next day...ha! Then I went internet hunting, saw the prices...went hunting again...then found the instructions how to make them in chinese

I also just surfed the web and found another tutorial but with pipcleaners: [link]

also totally can't believe they posted a link to my tutorial there...really awkward.

Anyways they had really cool designs
