Description
This is the third drawing in the series and shows, on the left, Corporal Jean-Pierre Simon, also known as "The Bear", originally a lumberjack from the Lorraine region of France who acts as the section's chief machine gunner. He is pictured with both a Hotchkiss M.1900 machinegun and the earlier St.Etienne and wearing both the kepi and the Adrian Helmet. The figure on the right is Brigadier General Jean-Baptiste Eugene Lecomte, former commander of the 13th Infantry Regiment of the French Empire, now relegated to the general staff, and his faithful dog, Étoilé. He wears the Légion d'Honneur as well as the Médaille Militaire (Military Medal) and the 1870 Campaign Medal.
Also, because he was originally an infantry officer, the piping on his tunic is red, even though the collar tabs are the red-violet of the general staff.
