Think I would have stayed with a 7 mm round, and turn the muzzle brake into a grenade launcher.

Well the .30-06 is already in the 7mm range, and since the tech to make hand-held coil guns exist, there's Β really no reason to make disable a rifle's main function to fire a grenade when the technology is available to make a separate grenade launcher that can simply be made to attach to the rifle or be by itself entirely.

Having fired the M203 in the National Guard (a 40 mm grenade launcher under the barrel of an M16) I think I'll stick with this design.Β  It was after I had submitted my comment that I noticed the Gauss coil around the barrel.Β  So effectively this is a linear rail gun?

To each their own. ^_^

It really more of a coilgun than a railgun, and it works half and half from what I can tell from the info given to me. The propellant in the bullet casing provides the initial velocity, while the coils provide an additional boost.

I've read sometime ago about a caseless round that uses the propellant charge to generate the electricity that magnetizes the rails and sends the round down range that way.

This was a bit more thought then I originally gave myself, was a fun read to run into randomly haha.Β

We did stick to the 30.06 for a bit of recognisable details but also to the fact quite a bit of the technology is post WWI, and in this case the rifle's design was enhanced by the mad scientist mechanics we have for this particular faction. WMD is certainly correct though, it is more a coilgun then a railgun as I did consider the sheer sizes they need to be made for certain sizes of rounds, so we kept those for their airships. Those have been designed by Lord Doomhammer should you be interested in looking into it.Β

The 30.06, being a .30 caliber that most Americans hunters are familiar with, did gain its toe hold during WW 1 and has lasted up till now as a good all-around hunting cartridge.Β  The 7 mm, being of a .270 diameter, is just under the stats of the '06.Β Β

The idea of the these weapons being of a coil-driven operation does have its good points as well as its bad.Β  The only bad point I can think of is having to coat the barrel with an anti-magnetic skin to keep the magnetic field from spreading out and affecting anything electronic close by.Β  Also, your enemy could have some means of detecting this magnetic field when and where it shows up.

I'll definitely keep that in mind, perhaps a cloth we can have with fantasy tech that can provide like gun oil something akin to an anti-magnetic layer for gun operation. All the things to learn today =] Curiosity, would you be interested in seeing more from this project?

considering that Electromagnetic Accelerator weaponary generates a LOT of Kinetic energy (and by default...heat and wearing of the rifle)... my question is: how do you safely solve the problem? (well, in a way other than having extremely small ammunition and/or lower Electromagnetic forces)

this video, after all, did kind of prove some facts related to weaponary much smaller in the process:Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMEpZc…

The idea here was it is an option for the soldier to use it, and you are quite right about the heat dispersal; this is why they are designed to be used maybe once or twice in a fight to give that extra punch to allow the bullet to reach somewhat farther or to hit that much harder. Otherwise it fires like a regular rifle in our world.Β
