Description
Spot illustration for my final. I'm actually trying to do reptiles a little less often, but the instructor insisted this illustration is to be more open ended and give a clear representation of us and the art we do...and I'm not going to hide the fact that reptiles are my absolute favorite thing to illustrate. So I guess I can get away with this one. This was somewhat based off of the ZBrush sculpt I made a while ago. I also reeeeeeaaally missed rendering in ink since I haven't been doing it as frequently, but I overestimated my ability to render it in two nights. Good thing I got an extra night to finish it, because I really don't have the energy to pull all nighters (or most-of-the-nighters) anymore. I'm an old college junior, soon to be senior, trying to get quicker and build improvements with my technique. My ability to stay up past 4:00 in the morning is starting to crack down on me.It may not look like anything different from what I do, and it really isn't. But I am trying to get better with my light sources and really pushing the darks back, as well as looking at more reference material.

I prefer the DnD styled Basilisk, but this is still pretty cool!

Hi! My name's Bryant and I'm currently making an A-Z book in a Typography class. It's a book describing mythological creatures. Your artwork is beautiful, and I was wondering if I could use it for my project. I will be sure to credit you and link this page in my appendix!

It's gorgeous. I do think you've done a good job showing where the light is coming from ... I also like the textures of the different kinds of scales, like the smoother, shinier scales on its sides and the harder, more horn-like scales on its back and belly.Β
