Adam's Comments: This is a bit of an odd moment for the comics, since we can't say anything directly but we needed to bring it up somehow....
If you don't read Blues, Jake has one of the locks. It's in his bunk at the Blues school. But that's a really closely-kept secret that he's not gonna share with a bunch of random superheroes he only just met. I love how Martin handled this since it would naturally come up but it's not something he would talk about. Jenny blurts it out and Jake coolly taps her foot just to let her know to keep quiet.
Just a really great moment; in particular Jake's super-chill poker face in the fourth panel. Actually volunteering to touch the lock feels out of character for him, but abstaining would look suspicious. Plus the only ones who know Jake well enough to spot that are the kids, and even if he didn't tell the others about the lock they're smart enough to keep their mouths shut if something's up.
Speaking of, love Dionysus being the cool big brother and offering the lock to the kids. ^_^
Martin's Comments: Yeah, this is kind of one of those things where it needed to be brought up but had to be carefully; Jake's already touched a lock because he has his own. Naturally this isn't exactly information he wants known about, so it makes sense to come up with an excuse to touch this one just to hide the connection. Of course, even without touching it it is possible to get powers from it if it's opened, that just guarantees it, but can see why he'd want to cover his bases.
Kind of some nice character moments going on here all around I think. Adam added the bit where Andy points out that pigeons aren't songbirds which I think works as a nice little capstone on that exchange, there's Protocol's bit where she's perfectly fine with what she has, and of course Dionysus...
That is something this crossover was a good opportunity to really go into. Kind of long been intended that Dionysus is very fond of kids and gets along better with them than he does with most people, but thus far while that's come up in Militant Gold there hasn't been a lot of it. ... Funny enough the next MG chapter will serve as much more of an outlet for it so hey, convenient how that works out.
