Adam's Comments: So we didn't plan to do the Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule when we started, but it's working out really well. Like, I'm working on the next page now, but I've got the weekend to catch up and I feel like if we hadn't taken advantage of this set-up to scale back I'd feel like I was drowning. Especially since I had a lot going on this week and will have even MORE going on next week. So this is working out like... crazy well for us.
Case in point, this. This page was written before the break in mind, and it just so happened to line up that this is going up on Friday. Enjoy stewing over THIS for the weekend!
First off, yeah, we saw Alex passed out from something when Ropun and Lillian were grabbed. Yeah, Hazel has proven time and time again that he is CRAZY vindictive and loves to strike back on anyone who he even thinks wronged him. And it's not like Marvelous Man knew who the guy was when Hazel took him down, so of course he'll go twisted and sick when he steps to Starchild.
Hazel is probably one of my favorite villains in any of the comics due to that, just the sheer degree to which he goes to twisted places for revenge. It's something I can really empathize with, funnily enough. I do love how Alex points out they really DON'T have anything that should merit this level of animosity, but Hazel doesn't even care.
Martin's Comments: There was actually a bit of uncertainty on how doing this page would go; it was drawn decently in advance, but I was due to get a COVID booster and past couple of times I did that it badly messed me up for a couple of days so I didn’t know if I would have it in me to actually color it. The end result is… It did still badly mess me up, going on two days later my head still feels very cloudy and I’ve barely slept, but it wasn’t so bad that I couldn’t at least find the time to do this one anyway.
So yeah, if you don’t read Wright as Rayne this page might be rather confusing, though next one will be giving some more direct context for it. Very much been building up to this - not only was there the stuff with Laura and Lillian in the last chapter but the one before that we saw Hazel having Maggi listen in on Alex recording the message to everyone, and Hazel has expressed interest in showing up the Light That Remembers before - but guessing it still is a bit of a surprise coming this late into things.
Something I rather like about this one is Alex flying off the handle at seeing Laura and Lillian in danger. They were already concerned about them and getting that kind of confirmation, and from someone who has been a recurring nuisance but not really actively an enemy, does make sense as a turning point for their anger here, especially under these circumstances.
