If anyone knows how to add preview images, please, tell me. Apparantly that's only for gif-images, but, this is just too huge.

A tutorial for facial anatomy can be found here: [link]
A tutorial for hands can be found here: [link]

Sorry, I rushed on the sketches. D8 Lack of time and exams and a freaking grahpic novel to finish make this a bit difficult.

This one is for , because she's having a hard time with anatomy – at this point the male torso. I sent her a link to a stock photo which I found randomly on google, and she made the left version out of it. I then drew it as well since I'd never add a picture here without permission. Also that made it easier to see and understand certain aspects.

I would link to that reference picture here on dA, but, I haven't seen it around. If you have, do tell me so that I can add the link here!

I hope that this helps you out a bit – if it doesn't, I really don't know what I can do anymore... D8

Anyone else is of course free to... learn from this, if it helps. Yet drawing from the added sketches is a bad idea: after all, you can't trust that I did it 100% right. Look up reference for yourself, or model for yourself: or ask someone else to model for you. Anatomy is difficult, and practise from good examples is the ONLY way to get it right. There are no special tricks for it no matter how much you want to. D8

YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO STEAL THE DISPLAYED WORKS WITHIN THIS. All sketches aside of the one that I've clearly mentioned is Crystal's belong to me, and you may NEVER reupload them without my WRITTEN permission.
I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to use Crystal's work either. So, grow up and don't. ;D

I'm willing to make more like this, or make this one a bit better if anyone wants me to. BUT. Then you must literally nicely say so in a COMMENT, because I simply can't smell whether you want for me to do anything specific or not.

Stock photography of male anatomy is something I can't do. Stock photography of female anatomy is something I won't do. Yes, I'd be my own model. But it'd be considered child porn if I were to put it up. (Yes, 16 year olds are children, too. We may be old enough to drink here and drive in America, but legally, we might just as well be 12. ;D )

Mistake in text next to third sketch: chest plates are not even, closer to each other. (I skipped the comma... )
Also "broud" should obviously be "broad", and for some reason I didn't make that mistake when I used the word elsewhere.

Well, at school we call it Traditional arts, yet I assume that that's a similar thing. So yes, I do. ;D

PhoenixGR In reply to Xannijn [2009-12-30 11:49:45 +0000 UTC]

well not really similar, because i do lots of pencil and ink art which is the traditional media, but i dont use them in the Fine arty way,as in im more careful with details and the overall structure, wereas Fine Art pays more attention to the picture and the idea.
I hope i havent confused you

Xannijn In reply to PhoenixGR [2009-12-30 17:32:19 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, I see now. ;D Then, no, I wouldn't truly consider it fine arts. We're taught how to use all media and, well, how to overall make your work most appealing. Composition, anatomy, colour, shape, everything, 17 hours a week. Although most teachers don't care about detail much, I don't think it should be let out. ;D

Cool.. we dont do any arts lessons.
So im all self taught xD
i dont mind, i tried doing once or twice a few arts courses but i got bored fast...haha

D'aww D8 Well, it'd be stupid if we didn't do art lessons. In art high school. 8D;
Haha, yes, drawing isn't always all fun. Though usually, all of it can be amusing. <3

Yes, I'm lucky. ;D You can imagine what a happy messy bunch it is there.
Understandable; it's not all that fun. But, trust me; it's something to get used to, and it feels sweet to outknow the teachers. ;D

haha yeah well i outknow my ex-art eacher in some things like, she doesnt know what digital art is....and all i could feel was sadness for her..she is stuck with paint all her life and she doesnt know the magic u can create with just a pc (and a tablet of course)

Xannijn In reply to PhoenixGR [2010-01-02 10:29:14 +0000 UTC]

Aww, that's kind of sad, yes. I mean, we only draw and paint and sculpt as well, but often the teachers come up with the idea of giving us one class of photoshop for example.

Great! Remember that reference is better help than a tutorial on it ;D I'm sure you'll do just fine.

PhoenixGR In reply to Xannijn [2009-12-30 11:51:29 +0000 UTC]

oh yeah i totaly prefer references..i use them in nearly all my drawings, and i have learnt many diferent things just from looking at other pictures.
Since im self taught i dont really like to watch tutorials but this one caught my eye

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Xannijn In reply to PhoenixGR [2009-12-30 17:34:22 +0000 UTC]

That's nice, then! Yet maybe this tutorial isn't exactly useful either. I get classes on model drawing, yes, but only female models. So as for male models, it's pretty much the same story as with you; just... trying to learn it yourself. 8D;

PhoenixGR In reply to Xannijn [2009-12-31 10:48:19 +0000 UTC]

haha ure so "lucky"
Anyway ure shading for the torso is very nice, quite messy but in a nice way
i use a diferent kind f shading (see here if u want: [link] ,but the anatomy is a bit off)

I can link u 2 what i was working on,but u better not look a it if u are religious and get upset by disturbing images, lets just say it involves Jesus and a cross.
>>here [link]

Xannijn In reply to PhoenixGR [2009-12-31 11:03:21 +0000 UTC]

Ohhaha, messy, yes. I get that all the time, even more here since I rushed on everything. > <
And aah yesyes, I see! As for the last picture; I'm not religious, no. At all. ;D Not a satanist either, but I must say that I quite liked that picture!

PhoenixGR In reply to Xannijn [2009-12-31 11:09:40 +0000 UTC]

haha sometimes messy is good, when i draw landscapes and scenerys all my drawings are messy, but the look more "real" that way ( [link] )
Im glad ure not or else u would probaply flame me with abusive comments and im equally glad u liked the pic

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Xannijn In reply to PhoenixGR [2010-01-02 10:30:38 +0000 UTC]

Yes, in a way they do. Yet overall a landscape is so much more difficult without colours.
Aww tsshk; abusive comments have no value, they're no critique nor a compliment; we might as well ignore them. ;D

Ooooh~ This will come in very handy, I do think! I've had enough practice drawing with male models to have a good idea of the anatomy, but this is definitely a wonderful tutorial~ <3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Xannijn In reply to InoShika [2009-12-11 21:23:38 +0000 UTC]

Ohyay, thank you! It's not very in-detail, since I mainly just made it for Crystal. It's good that others can find it handy as well though! 8D

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

InoShika In reply to Xannijn [2009-12-13 07:01:56 +0000 UTC]

Well, for someone who knows anatomy fairly well, or well enough for their purposes, this is really useful for posing and whatnot. I mean, I have a couple of pretty muscular male characters, and I've had trouble posing them due to that, and this is very handy in those circumstances~ ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Xannijn In reply to InoShika [2009-12-13 09:46:12 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I see 8D D'ahh well, a tutorial can only help with so much. Just... tell people where to pay attention. In the end it won't make anyone draw better without drawing from an example first. But either way, I'm glad it helped you somewhere 8D

ya know, I could only laugh when I saw how shameful mine looked next to your's...heheh... yet now I'm crying for yet another unknown reason.

but yeah thanks, Xanni. I'll be sure to use this and hopefully my habit of crying about these things will be put to an end...

One thing: Not what i was expecting. I was expecting a step by step thing like a "start with this shape and then that" thing. Oh well I'm sure this will still work.

I really do appreciate you doing this for me... I only hope I can live up to any expectations...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Xannijn In reply to CrystalRobot [2009-12-11 20:45:48 +0000 UTC]

Ohh dear, please don't cry! D8

I understand, but, there's just no specific way to draw things... You can however start with the rough lines instead: THEN the details/lining.

I'm glad, dear, you're welcome Hopefully you can indeed grow better in the future! <3
