Thank you very much mate. I actually sparked an interest in making charms and after watching some Birth By Sleep vids, I got inspired to find out how to make a Wayfinder for me and my best friend. I already have a sketch drawn, just need the materials. And recommendations about the type of Clay? Crafting is a new thing to me. Be very much appriciated.

Any type of polymer clay will do. I prefer Super Sculpey but there's many kinds out there.

I don't have any sort of picture, but I used this to help me make my wayfinder. Making those little crown-y points was a complete pain.

It's nearly as big as my face. It's bigger than my cat's head.
It was pretty fun to do and I'm really thinking about doing another one soon. I just want to make it a bit smaller and a bit thicker... My current one is nearly as thin as a non-sharpened pencil's point.

I'm thinking of making one of these for a project, except I'm planning to print images on the five points of the star instead of painting them (i.e. printing the images on paper, cutting them out, and then taping/gluing them on to the clay pieces). Do you think that would work ok?
In the case that I should use paint, what kind of paint should be used, and how much does the paint usually cost?
And do you think I'd be able to do a good job making this if I've never really made anything with clay before?

yup, I think that would work but you may have to paint the sides in case the paper doesn't cover it. I use acrylic paints. It's pretty cheap, like $1-2. You can get small ones at the dollar store or any craft store. Just take your time with it. If something doesn't look right, put it aside and try again with another piece of clay then compare the two.

Aah, I'm so happy I found this! I actually just got Birth by Sleep the other day, and decided I wanted to make Wayfinders for me, my sister and my best friend. My best friend just moved, so I figured it'd be a great thing to give her, considering the 'we'll be friends no matter where we are or what happens' meaning of them in the game. ^^

I made one using air dry clay because that's the only clay I see in our country. But I don't know what glue to use to put the emblem. Glue gun doesn't work, apparently.

I use krazy glue. any super glue should work just fine.

This is fantastic! I'm thinking about cosplaying Aqua and needed a good tutorial for this. Suprisingly after two years of ceramics I never thought to us Sculpey.

you can find the metal rings at a craft store, usually in the jewelery section.
or you can do what i do, take them off old jewelery you dont use anymore
they just make it easier to attach to a string or chain.

Wayfinders are from the game Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. Terra, Ven and Aqua, all have different coloured ones as lucky charms. Aqua made them for everyone to show that they'd always be friends. If you've ever heard of the paopu fruit from the kingdom hearts series, it pretty much has the same idea.

Just wanna let you know how happy I was to have found your tutorial.
Been looking for a way to make wayfinders, cause my lil sis is crazy about them...
we nearly gave up cause all the other tutorials require us to us scrap metal or entirely wire or fibre glass to make...
we're not skilled in those things, so we had no choice but to look for other tutorials which doesn't include any of those complicated stuff. And here is your tutorial~ XDXD
