Description
For my final project in Illustration this semester, I'm experimenting by illustrating four old wive's tales in a variety of mediums and styles.Crush your eggshells when you are done with them, or witches will make boats of them and terrorize sailors:
Oh, never leave your eggshells unbroken in the cup,
Think of us poor sailor-men and always smash them up,
For witches come and find them and sail away to sea,
And make a lot of misery for mariners like me.
Prints available. Note me if interested.

No, just very long noses with a hint of orange (like their hands). :3 But now that you've said that, they look like beaks, too!

The witches heads and hair are done so well
A weird concept that really draws you in and gets you thinking
And your technique is so interesting...espcially when applied to the waves and sky
You have added a lot of fantastic texture to the shark skin and the sky has that beautiful gradient
This is really one of the best deviations I have seen, a DD in my opinion

Thank you so much! I love how other artists are always inspiring and captivating me, so I am ecstatic when I can return the favor for someone else.
I'm currently pursuing the line and coloring/texturing style after how this piece turned out.

Wow, that is seriously all sorts of pretty My Favorite part has to be the lovely loose color scheme and the scales on the sharks. ALSO, KAYAKING WITCHES. HOW CAN THIS NOT BE MADE OF WIN, I ASK YOU?

Thank you! Haha, those are my thoughts exactly! I had one person express uncertainty about the kayak-style brooms because they weren't traditionally "realistic" or "plausible", but I commented that it would be very difficult to ride those waves without double-ended paddles. Plus, kayak-style is so much cooler.
I think all witches should take up kayaking.

Your art has evolved so much, it's amazing, even from just a year ago. I can see the influence of the ancient, oriental paintings in these and it's lovely and refreshing, combining simplicity and detail that makes it seem so effortless and spontaneous as well as beautifully well-composed and carefully constructed.

Thank you so much! It really does amaze me how much I've grown artistically, too. Fortunately my university's art program is great, so I owe a lot of credit to my professors and classes.

I have to admit, I personally never really learned anything in art classes until I got to college. There's just so much more engagement and push, I'm glad you have such a good group to learn from!

Aye, I agree. My high school teacher tried to teach us a lot of things that they focus on in college, but we just weren't at an age level to understand and her communication of such things wasn't the best. First year of art school, though, and I was suddenly like, "Oh! THAT'S what she was trying to teach me!"

I feel sorry for many High School art teachers, they have to put up with a lot of crap (like kids setting things on fire ....). And I think after a time it gets to them. And agreed! Part of it might just be an age thing, part of it might be that they're much better at communicating what they're trying to teach us. Of course, it might also be the three-hour class blocks!

I actually go back with my current work and visit my high school art teacher at least once a year. I've found it's a great way to boost self-esteem, but more importantly it allows you to practice presentation skills. It also /always/ makes her day, and really encourages her to not give up hope for her students. Plus, she likes to think that she had just as much impact on my progress as my professors, and if it makes her feel good about herself than I'm happy to let her think so. ^^

Indeed! I lost track of my photo teacher, who is actually the one who really inspired me to push my art more. And again, best of luck in your future pursuits! I can't wait to see how you evolve and improve!

Thanks and thanks again! I really love having the studio space, too. It's such a wonderful atmosphere to work in there, because you can feed off of other people's creative energy and vice versa.
Plus it gets me in a more "professional" mood, so I seem to do better work.

A couple more spaces opened up from people graduating after this semester, so more people have spaces now. They just can't move in until next semester.
They're Jamie, (Nancy) Drew, Margaret, and Caleb.

I wish there were words to use so I could tell you how much I absolutely love this. I love how ABSTRACT the tale is that you chose. The illustration is absolutely perfect. It looks like it came straight out of the pages of a storybook. The tones you used all work together and the glossy spots on your sharks are loooove.
I just hrt this SO. FRIKKIN. HARD. I'd buy a print if I had magical internet money ;-;
