When you think about it, it'd make more sense for carnivorous dinosaurs to have skin instead of scales, at least around the mouth. Blood can get stuck to scales and in between them really easy, decreasing hygiene and potentially attracting other predators from its smell. Though animals today like monitors are carnivorous and are fully scaled...

Well, I think that the muzzle theropod was covered not with scales, but just hard skin, keratinous cover (sometimes bumpy). By analogy with birds and crocodiles, of course, but not because of the danger of jamming of the meat between the scales.

Thank you! The crest is the result of speculation. Ceratosaurs from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods very often had decoration on the head, so I decided that this animal was no exception. The comb is similar to the horn on ornitholestes on some restorations.
