Description Decided to try a new style.  This is a portrait of a little-known representative of a famous genus: Lystrosaurus hedini. The species was described from Indian (Early Triassic) of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region (China). Inspired by the photos of babirusa when creating the skin texture and the eyes... Well you can see something amphibious in this eyes...

Yep.

By the way, I will draw a remake in maybe the near future. Although at the time of creation of the work I strongly doubted that dicynodonts may have fur, times are changing. And now this guy needs an upgrade.

Interesting works, but I prefer the more "naked" (with some hair) reconstructions of dicynodonts medium and large sizes. Small species could easily have the wool. But it is precisely not known.

Yeah. But they still look better with fur. You heard of the dinosaur family tree uprooting?

Better or worse... Hmm. Only time will tell. While I like most of non-mammalian synapsids reconstruction by Dmitry Bogdanov. For me he is the best artist on this topic.  Yeah, I heard about this hypothesis. It still needs to be tested, although, I agree that it's interesting.

Not surprising, because proto-mammals evolved from amphibians avoiding stage of "true reptile".
