Another remake. This is a portrait of a small therocephalian Nothogomphodon danilovi from the Middle Triassic of the Orenburg region (Russia).

Nothogomphodon danilovi was described by L. P. Tatarinov in 1974 on the basis of an almost complete skull and an isolated postcanine tooth. The skull of Notogomphodon is very massive, with a short blunted snout and large canines. The postcanine teeth have cutting three-lobed tops and do not touch each other. All this indicates a predominantly meat-based diet of the animal, which is probably capable of killing fairly large prey for its size. In 2015, a second species, N. sanjiaoensis, was described from the Middle Triassic of China. It differs from the typical one in the details of the structure of the dental system. Notogomphodon belongs to the monotypic family Nothogomphodontidae in the clade Baurioidea, which unites progressive therocephalians.

In this remake, I corrected some annoying mistakes of the original, including the auricle that I removed here. The overall appearance has also changed. And I tried to make a complex reflection in the glare on the eye, and I very pleased with result. I hope that the portraits of protomammals will often pop out from under my pens and pencils, this is a really interesting topic for me.
