I was literally just looking for a simple way to get a rock surface. I use Hex, and I don't think it has a "crumple", so I may be learning Wings3d very soon. Seems to have a bigger following anyway.

How polygons hawe one rock (circa)
You nod use normal or bump maps ?

The object has about 62000 polygons.
It's not always necessary to make such a high poly object, two steps less would be enough for most 3d renders.
I added a procedural texture in Bryce, normal and bump.

xmas-kitty , it's superb!
You have been using very well the modelling technique from the "old school".
As you already is using the UV-Mapper and as RoadKill was pointed below here is a tutorial using both (in case you didn't know it): How to UV map clothing
Thanks for the tuto.
SOULSSHINE , thanks for share the ReDucto link.

Wow, thank you for sharing! I've only worked with Wings 3D once, but when I try again, I'll keep this tutorial in mind!

WAU ! Amazing !! Modeling workflow !!
hehe.. you make it look So Easy ...
It completely makes Sense ! The Use of Low Polygons For Main SHapes Modeling once again is amazing ...
WHat Most Strikes me is the Incredible use of those Hidden Functions on the Free programs ...
And the Creativity you Actually Use it, as if you know it from top to down ...
And therefore there is no limits for you ...
The Uv Part is ... Very Creative.
Beside the oldie Uvmapper ...
There is Actually no Good FREE Uv Tools Apart from Blender ...
Especially Uv Tools That Work with Unwrapping Million polygons .
There is ROAD Kill ... And its has a Standalone ..
www.pullin-shapes.co.uk/page8.…
But i dont know how it works in Million meshes ...
So the Usage of the Oldie Basic Uv-Mapper is Quite intelligent ...
As You Can Manipulate pretty high uv Density Meshes ...
Even Higher Than 3D Coat maybe ...
Wich is the best 3D application for this "free modeling & uv" thing Commercially ...
For free Well BLENDER is The Biggest Best Choiçe for Uv Workflows ...
TrueSpace & SHade3D free ( See bellow ) Come Also with some Uv Mapping tools ...
There is also a Free Application for Reducing multimilion polygon Meshes Called REDUCTO
psychocore.com/index2.html
On the Free Organic modeling tools Part ...
Beside Blender ...As far as i know ...
:: There is TRUESPACE ...
www.united3dartists.com/forum/…
www.youtube.com/results?search…
:: SHADE3D FOR UNITY
shade3d.jp/en/products/shade3d…
www.youtube.com/results?search…
:: SCULPTRIS ...
FOR THIS KIND OF WORK SCULPTRIS is Kinda of a MINI ZBRUSH From Zbrush company That Is free
You can DOwnload it here : pixologic.com/sculptris/
With that Program you can SCulpt Rocks Away Busts Trees WHatever you want !
And that Program does Automatic UV Creation ..
So WOuld be My Choiçe in Making Rocks Likes this ^^
www.youtube.com/results?search…
Of Course ... Would not be So easy to do "Precise Shaping Control " as modeling in Wings 3D ...
Sculptris is More Organic ...
But you SHould Try To Rock With it baby ^^
THANKS SO MUCH FOR TAKING YOUR SHORT TIME
AND OUTPUTTING SUCH MARVELOUS CREATIVE
& UBER INTELLIGENT TUTORIAL TO THE COMMUNITY !
You can do Wonders with your Clean Thinking
and Visualization of the Model before is done ...
You are Incredible you know ...
I love you !

This IS very easy as you can see!
It's really done in a few minutes and the UV-Mapper Basic is good enough to create uv maps on such simple things as rocks and stones and works really quick and reliable even on high-poly objects.
Of course, I know Sculptris and I have already used but for some reason I prefer box modeling, you have much more control about each single polygon and there are no unnecessary polygons in the finished model.
Thanks to the link to Roadkill, I will try it out.
I didn't know the good old Truespace is still living.
As I already said, during the years I got the ability to model everything I want.
And it's not really necessary to learn much more modeling programs, except Blender I will give a try.
Thank you very much for the comment
I wish you a wonderful Sunday

Thank you so much for being there
TrueSPace as well SHadeUnity Are Still Great Free programs ..
I think this Technique Yours Can be Applied in Absolutely all Programs ...
Is quite Universal ... Thats why is So Valious ..
As All your Modeling Techniques ...
You got a Great Vision !
Yeah Blender ... is ROYAL ...
Nothing Alike it ...
There i think you can Use same modeling workflows ...
With Box Modeling ..
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dut5qb…
And do amazing ENtire scenes ...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=R48i3l…
And allow Million Polygons ... as much as 3DCoat voxels ..
www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwBBIN…
The new Dynamic Topology Plugins are very cool ...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl5EvG…
Im Still Trying to Learn my Way with Blender . As Everyone else lol !
Blender Is Reaaly Complex And no ending of possibilities and plugins and workflows ...
But Gladly there are so many tutorials around .
Is Reaaly Great to See Your Modeling Workflows !
You Got SUch a Creative Modeling Imagination .
There is no one in the world like you.
And you are on the Tops Baby !
Thanks for being so much Creative and informative to all us.

I'm really amazed how much attention my little tutorial got.
It's not even artistic.
Maybe I should make more of them.
